Y1 Home Learning 21.01.21 – MATHS

Hi Year 1,

Yesterday we were comparing addition calculations. Today we will be comparing subtraction calculations. Here is a reminder of how to use ‘more than’ and ‘less than signs:

Red group – Can you use the words ‘more than’ and ‘less than’ to complete these sentences?

3 is _____________________ 5
10 is ___________________ 4
9 is ____________________ 2
1 is ____________________ 6

Now please watch the lesson below:

    i have completed my mathwork

  2. Ibrahim I.

    Good morning y`all! Me and Ibrahim are excited to do this! So, even though we aren`t in red group.. we still thought it would be really entertaining and educational for us to still try it out, to enhance our ability of working out! So here`s our work, plus your my favourite teacher Miss Smith! And Mr Mahmood :) Anyway`s-
    ————————————————————————————————Less than, Greater than, Equal:
    * 3 is “Less than” 5!
    * 10 is “Greater than” 4!
    * 9 is “Greater than” 2!
    * 1 is “Less than” 6!
    Wow! That was fun to do- Anyway`s- Time for our next lesson!
    ————————————————————————————————
    Blue group- Bronze:
    —————————
    Crossing out counter`s to show each subtraction-
    So here`s our equation! — 14 – 5 { The counter`s are below to represent the equation! }
    10 ` . . . . subtracted by . . . . . So as you can see, I have showed my counter presentation!
    My 10`s and 4 dot`s to represent 14! And 5 dot`s to represent 5! So our next equation is 15 – 6
    Counter`s are below to represent this equation-
    10 ` . . . . . subtracted by . . . . . . As you can see I have put 10`s and 5 dot`s to represent 15! And 6 dot`s to represent 6!
    10 ` . . . . { 14 } subtracted by . . . . . { 5 } will equal 9, this is because if we cross away five dot`s from 14- we would get our equational answer, 9! Could also be counted as . . . . . . . . . { 9 } dot`s !
    So if we do the same thing to the other equation, we would represent and work it out like this!
    10 ` . . . . . { 15 } subtracted by . . . . . . { 6 } will equal 9 as-well!
    Hmm… This seem`s pretty interesting, let`s investigate shall we!
    So if 14 – 5 equal`s 9.. And 15 – 6 equal`s 9 too.. Then they’re the same equational answer! So no need to put a “Greater than” or a “Less than” sign because we know these both are systematically the same! So we would put this sign ” = ” to represent they are similarly the same, plus they are both big number`s as-well! Let`s go onto the next problem solving question-
    ————————————————————————————————
    Silver:
    Solving these equation`s using the “Less than” , “Greater than” and a “Equal” sign-
    17 – 2 O 14 – 4! So if we solve both of these equation`s, the answer`s would be- 17 – 2 = 15 and 14 – 4 = 10, I already know by looking at this that 17 – 2 is “Greater than” than 14 – 4, as-well as observingly saying it as 14 – 4 is “Less than” 17 – 2! So clearly the “Greater than” Alligator will munch up the scrumptious equation- 17 – 2! Yummy! Anyway`s-
    ————————————————————————————————
    18 – 7 O 15 – 1! We would do the same thing we did to the first equation, just find out the answer`s to make it more easier for us to work the problem out! 18 – 7 = 11 and 15 – 1 = 14, equationally saying- 15 – 1 is “Greater than” 18 – 7! Now you may be thinking how? Just because the question can be bigger- like this ” 18 – 7 ” The answer`s may be completely different to what you expect! So the “Greater than” Alligator will munch up the scrumptious equation, 15 – 1! Or you could say, the “Less than” Alligator will munch up the scrumptious question, 18 – 7!
    ————————————————————————————————
    And last one is- 9 – 5 O 8 – 4! Remember, working out comes first!?
    9 – 5 = 4 and 8 – 4 = 4! They are both equally the same, so we would put the “Equal” sign! Uh Oh, Mr Alligator doesn`t know which one to eat! It`s okay Mr Alligator, you can eat both since they are equationally equal!
    ————————————————————————————————
    And final challenge of them all!
    Gold:
    “Whitney has 16 sweet`s and eat`s 7 of them!”
    “Mo has 17 sweet`s and eat`s 8 of them!”
    Which has more sweet`s left and how do you know?!
    Well, if I could properly explain, I would visually say that… Wait?! Both of them are equal! So they both have more left? Well, what I did is basically solve out the equation that was given! 16 – 7 = 9 and 17 – 8 = 9! Wow!
    How considerable?! I suppose-
    ————————————————————————————————
    Anyway`s, I hope you enjoyed reading our presented work and I hope your really proud! Me and Ibrahim have put a lot of effort into this and it would mean the world if you liked the work, thank you so much for reading and thank you guy`s for being the best teacher`s! As Im Yosif speaking from my perspective, I`d like to say that- Thank you Miss Smith and Mr Mahmood for being the best teacher`s as possible! You`ve helped me so much and you guy`s deserve more better than me! You guy`s will be the only teacher`s I loved! Thank you so much and stay safe!
