Today, we will be learning about volume and capacity. (That means measurements of liquids)

We measure liquids by using containers with a scale (that means numbers on the side which show us how much is the container). Often these are found in kitchens to help when we are cooking. This container has 20ml in it because the liquid comes up to the 20.

In the next example, there are 65ml, because the middle little lines on the scale means 5 millilitres more than the previous multiple of 10 (the really tiny lines each show 1ml.)

BRONZE

What are the volumes of liquid here (every scale is in ml)

SILVER

GOLD

I know the scale is quite tricky to see. The top writing on all three says: 1 litre. The writing half way up on all three says 500ml.

  1. BRONZE
    I. 50 ml
    2. 35 ml
    3. 85ml

    Silver
The volume of the blue liquid is 400 ml
The capacity of the blue liquid is 1 Litre
The volume of the green liquid is 750
The capacity of the green liquid is 1 litre
The volume of the yellow liquid is 500
The capacity of the yellow liquid is 1 litre

    Gold
    Annie- B
    Amir -A
    Eva -C

  2. Bronze:
    1. 50ml
    2. 35ml
    3. 85ml
    Silver:
    1. The blue liquid’s volume is 400ml and the capacity is 1 litre.
    2. The green liquid’s volume is 750ml and the capacity is 1 litre.
    3. The orange liquid’s volume is 450ml and the capacity is 1 litre.
    Gold:
Annie has container B, Amir has container A and Eva has container C.

  3. Silver
    1) The volume of the liquid is 400ml
The capacity of the container is 1litre
    2) The volume of the liquid is 750ml
The capacity of the container is litre
    3) The volume of the liquid is 450ml
The capacity of the container is 1litre

  4. The volume is the amount of space inside a solid figure and that capacity is how much liquid a 3dimension figure that can hold. The difference between the two is the weight we represent the measurements.
