  1. Y3 English Home learning – 1st July 2020

Finally, the Queen came out on to the balcony and started waving to the crowds. Everyone cheered loudly and stated waving their flags, I can feel the excitement with the cheering and the band playing. My heart started thumping to the beat of the drums playing from the royal band.

I looked at Mr. Gruber and shouted, “This is great!!!”
“What?” replied Mr. Gruber shouted back.
I had to shout back even louder “This is great!!!”
Mr. Gruber shouted to me, reminding me “Paddington, your flag!”

In all the excitement I had forgotten that I needed to wave my blue and red flag so the queen could see me.

I needed to get closer so the queen could see me.
“I need to get closer Gr. Gruber!”

Mr. Gruber nodded and turned back to see the queen.

As I got closer, the guardsman stood there dressed in a smart red suit jacket with medals on it. He must have been very high ranked with all those medals. But I couldn’t help wondering why is he standing there without out even moving. Is he asleep with his eyes open?

    Suddenly the doors opened and out walked a man very smartly dressed in a black suit. He was followed by 2 of the guards. The large gates to the palace opened and I wondered what was happen. It didn’t look like part of the celebration because as he was walking out of the palace the guards pushed past people in the crowds. They were were walking right towards me. I quested myself;

“Did I do anything wrong? Or are they coming for someone else?”
They finally reached me and stopped. My jaw dropped and I froze. My heart stopped beating awell.

The man in he suit spoke to me,
“Good day sir, her royal highness would like to meet you!”

My eyes grew wider and I nodded my head agreeing. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. The shock was so much my jaw was left open as I walked off with the queen’s men.

As I walked into the palace the butler’s opened the doors. I felt most important when the butlers opened the doors for me.

There was another person in the room who looked exactly like the one that I met outside.
“This way sir, The Queen is waiting for you,” he said.

He leaded the way to the room where the Queen was waiting for me very patiently. There the queen sat on a sofa with a table full of cups of tea and biscuits.

As I walked further into the room I felt very nervous to be in front of the Queen but I managed to keep that a secret. My heart started beating like a drum again and I managed to close my mouth. To room went silent as I stared at the queen. The silence was broken when Queen asked.

“Would you like to wave at the crowd with me?”

    I replied,
    “Would I ever!”
As we waved down at the crowd, Mr. Gruber took a photo of me and the Queen waving at the crowd. The good thing is that it was a good photo.

    • A good start Serina, but your are capable of doing more than this! You have punctuation missing at the end of your sentence.
Please write 5 more sentences. Include inverted commas, expanded noun phrases and an adverb.

    *********
As Mr Gruber and Paddington walked slowly towards the majestic palace gates, stood blocking the entrance was a rather portly, old man. The man was shouting orders at people to keep to the right and don’t stop.
“Hey you in the Blue coat! Hurry along,” shouted the portly man.
“Quick Mr Gruber take my photo before I have to move,” said Paddington. The wind was blowing Paddington’s flag, it was the perfect shot, strangely enough it was hard to make out where Paddington stoped and the flag began, as his blue coat and red hat looked like an extension of the Union Jack flag.
Mr Gruber, with his hands held behind his back gazed at the palace and the Queens guardsman who was stood still like a statue.
    “I wonder,” squeaked Paddington.
“what’s on your mind?” replied Mr Gruber.
I was wondering if I’d be able to take a photograph beside the guardsman, I don’t see why not, let’s be quick though. Paddington stood near the guardsman who looked very regal in his red jacket and and tall, furry black hat. As Mr Gruber went to take a photo, Paddington was beaming from ear to ear, and his flag was waving gently in the air.
All of sudden a bell sounded scaring the daylight out of Mr Gruber, causing him to drop his camera, luckily he had it attached round his neck. The bell was to sound the changing of the guard, what a spectacle it’s hard to describe, it made us both feel so important watching one guardsman marching of with his rifle and another taking his place. Paddington was enjoying himself but deep inside he was also scared as he kept on peering at the rifles and wondering, do they have bullets in them?

The royal palace was very beautiful and there were guards marching, playing music and lots of people were there watching them. ” Oh no I couldn’t even take a picture of you with the guards “said Mr Gruber.
“I couldn’t even see them” I replied. As we were walking out the palace, a police man came and told us “I’ve instration to invite inside to take a proper photo graph.”
