Children return to school Mon 8th April

TWELVE lucky children have the opportunity to represent our school next Tuesday 12th July at the Coventry Cathedral.

This will be the first international All Schools conference in support of the United Nations Outreach Programme on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Slavery.

The aim of this conference is to build a relationship between Coventry schools and the UN so we can be part of an UNESCO bid, which will allow schools the opportunity to join the UNESCO schools network.

UNESCO Schools is a global network of millions of students, teachers, head teachers and broader school communities who are committed to promoting and transmitting UNESCO´s values through education. It drives innovation in teacher education, particularly global citizenship education, initiates global projects such as the Trash Hack campaign for sustainable development and provides a world platform for students to exchange ideas and experiences

Children who will be attending:
Year 6: Sheima/ Danyaal/ Alexis/ Safya/ Umar/ Ilyas
Year 5
: Gufran/ Joel/ Moosa/ Fatima/ Surinder/ Leon

Please wear school uniform.
Back-pack: Water bottle, fruit and a healthy snack bar.
Sensible school footwear.

In order to attend the conference, we have the following brief to create before Friday 8th July.

Design your own Memorial:
The United Nations has a permanent memorial to the memory of Victims of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, The Ark. The Ark serves as a permanent reminder to all who visit the United Nations building in New York. In Coventry, we have a history of memorials of significant events in our past (the cross in the Cathedral stands as a memorial for events in the Second World War.)
In Coventry, we had young enslaved people brought over to work in some local country houses. How should we remember them? We invite Primary schools to design their own Memorial to the victims of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, which incorporates this city’s messages of Peace and Reconciliation. These can be in any form. These memorials will be displayed in Coventry Cathedral.
