Y6 🤷‍♀️ Maths Riddles 🤷‍♀️

Hi Year 6, I hope you are all safe and well. Well done to those of you that responded last week to the riddles. I was a little disappointed to many of you who didn’t even have a go. The riddles are fun and there to keep your little heads busy. Please do have a go. I will reveal the answers on Friday. Do show how you have worked them out rather than copy each others answers because we can tell. Have fun.

Riddle 1: If the zookeeper had 100 pairs of animals in her zoo and if two pairs of babies are born for each and every one of the original animals, and then sadly 23 animal don’t survive, how many animals do you have left in total?

Riddle 2: A little boy goes shopping and purchases 12 tomatoes. On the way home, all but 9 get mushed and ruined. How many tomatoes are left in a good condition?

Riddle 3: If you multiply this number by any other number, the answer will always be the same. What number is this?

Riddle 4: Jennifer passed away at a very old age on her 26th birthday. How can this be?

Riddle 5: If 66 = 2, 999 = 3, 8=2, 0=1, 9696=4, 8123=2, 98=3 and 88=4, then what does 816982 equal?

Riddle 6: If four men can build four tables in four hours, how many tables can eight men build in eight hours?

Riddle 7: There are 2 ants in front of 2 other ants, 2 ants behind 2 ants and 2 ants next to 2 ants. How many total ants are there?

Simultaneously, the bicycle rider passes a jogger who is running in the same direction south at 5 mph. Which will move away from the bicyclist at a quicker pace, the car or the jogger?

Riddle 9: If you take my son’s age and multiply it by one and a half times his age you get 24. How old is my son?

    9. The son is 4 years old. This is because if you divide 4 by 2 (the half) you get 2. So the one and a half of his son’s age is 6. 6 multiplied by 4 is 24.

    5) If 66 = 2, 999 = 3, 8=2, 0=1, 9696=4, 8123=2, 98=3 and 88=4, then what does 816982 equal? 6.

  11. Maria I.

    1) There are 977 animals 100 X 2 = 200 , 200 + 800 = 1000, 1000 – 23 = 977, I took away 23 because that’s how many didn’t survive.

    2) It is 9. This is because ‘ all but 9 get mushed’ , that means there are 9 left.

    3) 0. It s zero because whatever you multiply by zero has to equal zero. e.g 789 x 0 = 0 however if its 1 x 1= 1 there is no zero so the answer will not be zero.

    4) It could be she was born on a leap year, so it could be February the 29

    5) I am not sure.

    6) I just doubled the tables and people and hours, 8.

    7) there are 4 ants. 2 ants next to two ants.

    8) The jogger.

    9) 4 – 4 x 6 = 24

    10) 42 lbs

    1. Miss Kaur

Well done Maria, this is amazing! Go back and check your answers as you have made an error. Try to solve question 5 too. Good luck 😉

    2. Maria I.
