Year 2 – The Great Fire of Broad Heath!

To kick off our History work about famous people, the children learnt about the Great Fire of London. As they were read the information about the event (which they later completed a comprehension task on), the children got to experience a real fire. We discussed how easily fires can start and the conditions that fire needs to burn.

Where did the fire start in London?
Why did the building catch fire so easily?
How did the fire finally die down?

    The fire started near Thomas Farriner’s bakery on Pudding Lane, on the 2nd of September 1666
    2. Why did the building/buildings catch fire so easily?
    Because the buildings were made out of constructed wood, which then the material wood can obtain fire easily and spread.
    3. How did the fire finally die/go down?
    The fire was spreading and finally stopped maybe due to a river collision, or maybe people just used equipment which is destructible to fire?
