I have learnt from the text that the poorest people used to live and work in a workhouse. They were first built about 400 years ago and ended in 1930.
The poor families were not allowed to live together.
They all had to do different hard jobs .
They had to wear uncomfortable and rough uniform.
They had to eat gruel( watery porridge) and sometimes bread and cheese.
The school for children was only three hours a day.
They had to follow the strict rules in a workhouse..

    Workhouses:
Workhouses are places where people with no fortune, homeless and destined to have no money live. You might think that its a good thing, homeless get to live somewhere warm, happy and festive.. right? They have to keep suffering with their stressful life by working. Yes, working. Kids are joined in the community as well. Anxiety still growing within their sweaty hours of cleaning, washing, and eating food which isn’t that good for what they usually work for. Rotten, moldy food. Doesn’t give much potential of some energy.

These are some of the the things I can remember from the powerpoint:

    * Workhouses ended in 1930
    * Children slept in large dormitories.
    * Sometimes, the girls had to share the bed with three other girl.
    * You weren’t allowed to read newspapers.
    * You weren’t allowed to play games or cards.
    * If you did anything bad, you could go to jail for up two months.
    * Children were separated from their parents.
    * You had to wear rough, scratchy clothes.
    * The workhouses were large buildings , that were later turned into care homes and hospitals.
*The men had to break rocks and the women had to sewing and cleaning.

Workhouses were large buildings where poor people who had no home or job lived. People would do jobs around the workhouse in order to stay there to have a roof over their heads.
