Year 4 – Language Detectives

Your task for this week is to continue being language detectives at home and outside of school and look out for different languages you hear (friends, restaurants, adverts) or see food packaging.

Keep a note of your findings and record on this class blog.

    Different countries speak a variety of languages but I am only going to do the main language
    In England they speak English
    In in Brazil they speak Portuguese
    In Italy they speak Italian
    In Mexico they speak Spanish
    In United Arab Emirates (UAE) they speak Arabic
    In Mauritius they speak French
    In Turkey they speak Turkish

    My friend Aisha can speak 4 different languages Finnish,Pashto,Spanish and English.
    My other friend Aamnia can do sign language .

  4. My dad can speak 7 different language ‘s and they are urdu,farsi,Finnish,English,Pashto,Dari and Arabic.I have been to resturant’s that speak’s Turkish,Arabic and Finnish.My friends
    Speak’s urdu,arabic and somali.

  6. Well done for finding out what languages were spoken in some countries.
    Some key points:-
    Farsi is Persian and in Pakistan the national language is Urdu not Punjabi although Punjabi is spoken mostly in the Punjab region.
    Sidra do you mean different languages have a different alphabet/signs and symbols to represent the words?

    Remember what your main task was, to investigate languages spoken in this country – to detect these.
    How many examples of different languages were you able to see or hear throughout the week?

    For example.
    Coventry – London
    London – Coventry
    Juhlsm- Islamabad
    Islamabad – juhlsm

    England-english
    Pakistan- pangabi
    Spain – Spanish
    Italy – Italian
    E.x
    I’ve also found out that different languages have different letters .
