Year 4 Maths Challenge

Leicester Tigers rugby players have 4 different rugby shirts, shorts and socks.

One game, they were not informed of which kit to wear.

Find the all the combinations of kits which players might wear.

Write down your answers on a piece of paper and bring them to school!

Hint: it may help if you think of each of the items of clothing as follows and record all the results in a table.

Shirt 1, Shirt 2, Shirt 3, Shirt 4

Shorts 1, Shorts 2, Shorts 3, Shorts 4

Socks 1, Socks 2, Socks 3, Socks 4

they could wear:
shirt 1 sock 1 short 1
shirt 1 sock 2 short 2
shirt 1 sock 3 short 3

shirt 2 sock 1 short 1
shirt 2 sock 2 short 2
shirt 2 sock 3 short 3

shirt 3 sock 1 short 1
shirt 3 sock 2 short 2
shirt 3 sock 3 short 3

I have found a way of doing this.First I wrote shirt 1 at the start of the first three ways.then I wrote sock 1 and short 1 with it.next I wrote sock 2 and short 2 with it.finally I wrote sock 3 and short 3 with it. There i found all the different ways with shirt 1.

next i did the same but with shirt 2 at the start.then I found all the ways.finally i did the same but with shirt 3 at the start.

there I found out all the different ways.
