Mexico Day 2019!
To understand the significance of the Aztecs in Mexico:
The children have learned all about the Aztec people today as part of Mexico Day. They have discovered that the Aztecs were a fierce tribe of warriors, who arrived in the Valley of Mexico in the 13th Century. They fought many battles against neighbouring tribes, and built a powerful empire.

To understand why Spanish is the official language of Mexico:
Moving forward through history, the children discovered that in the 16th century, Europeans began to explore the ‘New World’ and began to conquer countries in the Americas for economic gains. Mexico was one of such countries, and was seized by Hernan Cortes in 1521.

- What did the Aztecs eat? Describe what an Aztec’s breakfast, lunch and dinner could be.
- True or false? The Aztecs used money in exchange for goods at the market. Prove it!

- What did the Aztecs do for fun? Describe the rules of the ball games they used to play.

- Describe why the Aztec period ended, and the events leading up to this.
