Children return to school Mon 8th April

This week in Maths we have been looking at fractions of numbers and shapes.  Using your knowledge from last week about fractions and the method below answer the following questions:-

To calculate a fraction of a number you must:-

DIVIDE THE NUMBER BY THE DENOMINATOR AND THEN TIMES THE ANSWER BY THE NUMERATOR!

For example to find a 2/3 of 15 you do:- 15/3 = 5                                                                                                                                                             5 x 2 = 10                                                                                                                                                         Answer = 2/3 of 15 is 10

Now work out the following:-

1/3 of 12=

2/3 of 30=

3/4 of 20 =

4/5 of 50 =

Which of these shapes can be split equally into a 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4?

    Maths:
    Fractions:

    1) 1/3 of 12 = 4
    12 divided by 3 = 4
    4 x 1= 4

    2) 2/3 of 30 = 20
    30 divided by 3 = 10
    10 x 2 = 20

    3) 3/4 of 20 = 15
    20 divided by 4 = 5
    5 x 3 = 15

    4) 4/5 of 50 = 40
    50 divided by 5 = 10
    10 x 4 = 40

    Shapes:
    Square = 1/4, 1/2
    Trapezium = 1/2
    Circle = 1/4, 1/2, 1/3

    The circle can be split up into all the fractions that Mrs Khan wrote above.
