On Wednesday 27th November it was Year 5’s turn to take part in the Sports Champions tournament. This time, the sport was end ball, and each class were eager to claim some more points and possession of the Sports Champion’s trophy.
From the first match, we know that this tournament would be a tight affair. In the group game, 5 Red had a significant height advantage, with the likes of Ikram and Keisha making it hard for the opposition to score, 5 Blue had excellent speed of pass, and 5 White’s shooting skills were better than any.
Every game was close, but 5 Blue topped the group, leading the other 2 classes to play off in a semi-final.
The semi final was just as hard fought as the group stage, with all teams working hard to gain an advantage. Anis and Harley-Ray combined well, giving 5 White an early 2 point lead, but with some fantastic determined team effort, 5 Red pegged them back to 2-2.
The game was tight, with no one scoring for 3 minutes, but in the final moments 5 White scored 2 points in quick succession to take them through to the final.
In the final the teams were visibly tired, with players closed down less. However, the skill level was still high and the teams were some good points scored from both teams. However, with time ticking down, 5 White were in the lead 4 – 2 with a minute to spare.
White were unable to hold onto the ball, and in the dying seconds blues leveled to take the game into extra time. They then followed that scoring run with another point in extra time to run out 5-4 winners. Well done to 5 Blue who secure 3 points for winning, and all the other teams for trying their best and working hard.
