  1. Task 2
    2. I think Mia thinks that Shady Pines was more like a prison than a retirement home because of the look of the place like the retina recognition pod kept inside a retirement home .

    4. Grandpa meant that people , who also stay in the retirement home , can hear him speak if they live next door to his room .

    5. I think Grandpa Brian will ask Mia to help him on a mission . I know this because in the text it says ‘You see , back in the day , when I was younger I was … a spy !’. This means Grandpa Brian may ask Mia to help him on a mission because spys have missions .

I have done task 1 on purple mash but question 1 and 3 are difficult for me on task 2.

  2. 1. Patiently.

    2. Mia thought that because it was strange.

    3. They described it like that because he was old.

    4. That there are spies everywhere.#

    5. I think he will take her on the mission.

  3. 1)Patiently
2)Because it looked more like prison but not a retirement home
3)so it can make us feel more excited
    4) I think that grandpa said that do he can scare someone
5)I think that grandpa told Mia to look around the place to see what will happen or what there is.

Do we have to do the other set of questions

  4. I did all the tasks
    Answers:
    1. The word is verified.
    2. I think she thinks that the retirement home is more like a prison because first, her mum had to put her thumb on a device that scanned it, and then to put her eye close to a retina scanner. That means it heavily guarded so people can’t come in or escape without checks, just like in a prison.
    3. The author described Grandpa Brian’s face as walnut because:
a/ His face is brown, just like a walnut.
b/ A walnut has many wrinkles, just like Grandpa Brian’s face.
    4. When he said “the walls have ears” he meant that someone might be listening to him through the wall.
    5. I think he needs help for his next mission.

  5. 1.Mia thought that the retirement home was like a prison because where grandpa was living he was kept in a big, black metal box with a huge door next to it .

    2. The reason why it says his face is like a walnut is because a walnut looks wrinkly.

    3. When grandpa said the walls have ears I think he means people are listening to what he says.

  6. 2.)She thought that is was more like a prison as the walls were dull and grey and at the entrance there was a keypad and a heavy metal door. This should not be used to contain the elderly as they are old and frail. Also when they entered she said that there were lots of corridors that made a maze. And there was too much security as on Brian’s door there was a retina scan which Mia’s mum had to put her eyes into and it recognised the pattern of her eyes and it let them through. That is a lot of security for a elderly retirement home.

3.) The author used the word walnut to describe Brian’s face as walnuts are a type of nuts that you can eat and they look really wrinkly on the outside and that is why the author used them to describe his face. It is also a really good point of vocabulary and it is also a simile.

4.)I think “The walls have ears” mean that it is not a safe place for Brian to tell Mia about his secrets. This shows that the retirement home is a dangerous place to live in and Brian knows that. And from the title of the book I think that he is a secret agent and does not want his secrets to be revealed…

5.) Brian says that his hearing aid is not a hearing aid and he said that is how they contact him. He said that they want him to come out of retirement and take part in one last mission. I think that he will tell Mia to help him get out of the retirement home and help him with the mission

  7. 1) Mia thought that the retirement home was like a prison because where grandpa was living he was kept in a big, black metal box with a huge door next to it .
2)I think the author used a walnut to describe grandpa’s face because his skin must be soft and wrinkly.
    3) By grandpa saying the walls have ears I think he means people are listening to what he says ( probably agents).

  8. 1) Mia thought that the retirement home was like a prison because where grandpa was living he was kept in a big, black metal box with a huge door next to it .
2)I think the author used a walnut to describe grandpa’s face because his skin must be soft and wrinkly.
    3) By grandpa saying the walls have ears I think he means people are listening to what he says ( probably agents).
I have completed the purple mash task.

  9. 1) I think the word that means patiently.
    2) Because it was dull and grey.
    3) I think the author used the word walnut face because that Grandpa had wrinkles on his face.
    4) That the walls were listening to the private conversation .
    5) Help Grandpa on his last mission to stop a agent taking secret information.
