Year 5 Geography – A Spanish Christmas!

To complete their Geography unit this half term (Spain), the children were asked to compare and contrast a British and Spanish Christmas!

Can you tell us the similarities and differences between the two countries?

Are you able to share any facts that you have discovered today?

What surprised you?

For the uk the country celebrates a huge dinner on Christmas Day, the 25th of December, Spain celebrates Boxing Day on the 26th.
The uk eats Christmas crackers however in Spain they eat exactly 10 grapes.
Christmas Day is a public holiday in Spain. It is not a day of great celebrations like in the UK; instead it is a calm day when people go out for a walk and sleep off the previous night’s festivities. It’s very common to see families eating out on Christmas day afternoon

The difference between the countries are that Spain might have different food than ours and I think they do something else than Carols.
In England we go around and carol, make cards for each other and do secret Santa.
I was surprised by Spain have different Christmas celebrations in different months.
