Year 5 Geography – A Spanish Christmas!

To complete their Geography unit this half term (Spain), the children were asked to compare and contrast a British and Spanish Christmas!

Can you tell us the similarities and differences between the two countries?

Are you able to share any facts that you have discovered today?

What surprised you?

  1. For the uk the country celebrates a huge dinner on Christmas Day, the 25th of December, Spain celebrates Boxing Day on the 26th.
The uk eats Christmas crackers however in Spain they eat exactly 10 grapes.
Christmas Day is a public holiday in Spain. It is not a day of great celebrations like in the UK; instead it is a calm day when people go out for a walk and sleep off the previous night’s festivities. It’s very common to see families eating out on Christmas day afternoon

  2. I did discover that in the UK we open our presents on Christmas morning however Spain opens their presents on the 6th of January. They wait 10 days to open their presents.

  3. We have have different foods than Spain such as chicken and potatoes They have no Santa Claus. They believe the three wise men bring presents to the good children. The most thing that surprised me is no Santa Claus.
