Morning Year 5! Today you will be looking at converting between fractions percentages and decimals.

**The key rule you need to remember, is that % is out of 100.**

When you have fractions which are not out of 100 e.g. 1/25 – you can multiply both the numerator and denominator to make it a fraction out of 100. For example 1/25 multiplied by 4 would be 4/100 = 4% and 0.04.

so 30 is the whole and you want to find out 2/5 of 30.

Remember when you phrase the question as 2/5 out of 30 – you have seen this question throughout the year. so divide 30 by the denominator (5) and multiply by the numerator (2). This will give you a number.

50% would be half of 30, because remember 50/100 is the same as a half.

Use this working out to solve the question and figure out the children who do not have coloured hair.

For 4 b,c Change denominator to 100 and then you can work out decimal and percentage.

Example 1/5 = 1×20 =20

5/20=100

1/5= 20/100

1/5= 0.2=20%

5.) 10% of the Class have neither Brown or Blonde hair as a 50% have blonde hair which is 50/100 which is also 1/2 but an extra 2/5 of people have brown hair which is 40/100 so if you add 50/100 + 40/100 = 90/100 so it is 90/100 and what is left to make 100 as it is a percentage is 10% so 10% of people have neither Brown or Blonde hair.

6.) 1/8 as a fraction is 12.5 I got this from the equation 100 / 8 which equals 12.5. As for 3/8 you just have to multiply 12.5 by 3 which is 37.5 so that is how you change them.
