  1. 1) Who do you think the bully is in this poem? Why?
I think the bully is Bill Craddock because the tittle is “The bully asleep” but then it changes to all the innocent children because they might be of wanted to set revenge on Bill.
    2) Why do you think Jimmy and Roger are doing these things to Bill Craddock?
I think they are doing it to get revenge on him.
    3) Why is Miss Andrews letting his sleep?
Because the children told her his mum lets him stay up all night. Or he has done it before. Maybe because he was the bully and she wanted peace and quiet.

  2. 1) I think the bully in this poem is Billy Craddock because the title of the story says The bully asleep and in the poem it says Billy is asleep .

    2) I think Jimmy and Roger are doing these things to Billy is because maybe Billy bullies them the most then other kids.

    3) I think the teacher let Billy sleep because maybe he’s trouble in class and teachers get annoyed and tired of him so the teacher really wants piece and quiet .

    4) I think Jane wanted to comfort him because maybe Jane is friends with the bully .

  3. I think the bully is Bill because he is sleeping and the title says that the bully is asleep.
I think Jimmy and Roger are doing these things to him because they are trying to get him to wake up.

  4. I think the bully is Bill because he is sleeping and the title says that the bully is asleep.
I think Jimmy and Roger are doing these things to him because they are trying to get him to wake up.
I think Miss Andrew is letting him sleep because Jimmy told her that he doesn’t go to sleep all night.
I think Jane wants to comfort him because she feels sorry for him that he doesn’t sleep all night.

    • Super Anis. I agree that the bully is Bill Craddock. I think the other two are making the most of him being asleep and trying to get their own back on him for things he has done.
Do you think two wrongs make a right?
What should they do if Bill is mean to them?

    • So the title of the poem is ‘The Bully Asleep’ – which would make me think that the person sleeping (Bill Craddock) is the bully.
Jimmy, Roger and Jane are people in his class who are checking if he is asleep or just pretending to be.
When the teacher realises he is asleep, the children tell her he’s been up all night and that his mother doesn’t care.
She then replies by telling the children to leave him alone and get on with their writing.
Jimmy and Roger take the opportunity to do mean things to him to get their own back. They are all things which they wouldn’t do to him if he was awake.
Bill doesn’t care – he’s asleep and doesn’t know what is going on.
Jane doesn’t want t join in because she feels sorry for him – this could be because he’s up all night and doesn’t care or it could be because of what the boys are doing to him.

      Does this help at all?

  5. 1) in my opinion , I think jimmy is the bully because he says “ He stays up all night you see and his mother doesn’t care.”

    2) I Think they are bullying Bill because in the poem it says “ he laid his head on his desk and slept.”

    3) I think he’s sleeping because Miss Andrews knows that the children have bullied him and say his mother doesn’t care because he stayed up all night.

    4) I think Jane wants to comfort him because he’s scared of the bullies bulling him.

  6. • Excellent, Nehemia. I think the boys were plotting revenge, too.

      What should you do?

  7. 1)I think Jimmy is the bully because he kicked him and even took his pen.
2)Maybe because the don’t like him or jealous of him that has something and they don’t have the thing that he does.

I think Jane wants to comfort him because she thinks bad should be treated with good and if they care about him then he would not do bad to them.

    • What wonderful answers, Velin. You show a great understanding.
I completely agree, they boys are retaliating to Bills actions. It it isn’t right to be mean to someone just because they are to you.
      Great effort.

  10. 1.In my opinion Jimmy is the bully because he snatched the pen of the boy and then he kicked him even though the boy didn’t do anything.

2.I think that they did it because they might have bullied them before and teased them before.

3.I think that she let him sleep because he might charge at her

4.I think that she wanted to comfort him because he was going through a rough time.
    5. I think its called bully asleep because the bully (Jimmy) couldn’t wake up at school and he was in a deep sleep.

    • Do you think the teacher was being kind by letting him sleep as he didn’t get much sleep at home?
Billy Craddock might have been the bully and they other boys might’ve been trying to get their own back. But do two wrongs make a right?

  13. the bullies are Jim and roger because they kicked him and hid his pen.
maybe he is doing it because the boy did something’s them first.
i think the teacher left him to sleep because she felt sorry for him not getting any sleep.
about sleeping in class and she thinks its not fair.

  14. 1) Who do you think the bully is in this poem? Why?
I think the bully is Jim and Roger because they were the one who were mean and cruel to Bill Craddock.

As he snatched bills pen and hid it!
“Kick him under the desk HARD he won’t know who did it!”

    • A good understanding, Lexi.
Why do you think they poem has the title ‘The Bully Asleep’?
Do you think Bill could be the bully and that these boys are only getting revenge? Do two wrongs make a right?

  16. 1. I think the bullies in the poem is Roger and Jim because they say “Stick him with pins!” And ” Ink down his neck! ” which are mean, spiteful things to say.
    2. I think they are doing the things because Bill was a bully and he used to bully them so they gave him payback.
    3. Miss Andrews let’s him sleep because he stays up all night and his mother doesn’t care.
    4. I think Jane doesn’t want to bully him because he didn’t bully her.

    • Roger and Jim were definitely unkind to a Bill. But if Bill is usually the bully, are they just trying to ‘get their own back’? Does that make their actions right?
