Year 5: Thursday 16th July: Home Learning: English

Good Morning year 5.

Today I would like you to revise some of the SPaG you have learnt this year. To do this I have put a SPaG tests on the blog for you. However, I don’t expect you to do this all on your own. I expect you to use a website to help you study the material.

One of the things you need to learn for SATs, high school, GCSEs and beyond is how to study.

So what is studying? Well it’s a bit different to homework. Homework is a specific task that we set. Studying is reviewing material that has already been taught. Studying can also be learning new material by making notes on it and then practising it by applying it to a problem.

So how do you do it? With today’s task try this: read the question, and if you don’t know the answer to it, or you are unsure, you can use the website I have provided for you and look up what the rules are.

Isn’t that easy? I know all of you can have a go at this!

Website for help: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhrrd2p This has lots of links. Use it to help you revise.

Here’s an example:
“Oh no!!! I’ve forgotten what a relative clause it!”

“I know, I’ll follow the instructions and look at the website, maybe that can help me.”

“Ah well I better open the link and read it!”

“This information can help me answer the question. I will write the sentence in the book and underline the relative clause.”

Now it’s your turn, finish this quiz.

Q1: Write the words with the correct prefix.
Q2. Write the sentence and finish the word with the correct suffix.

Q3. Write the sentence and add a pair of dashes to show the parenthesis.

Q4. Write the sentence with the correct adverb placed in the sentence. Underline it.

Q5. Write the sentence that is punctuated correctly.
Q6. Write the sentence and circle the relative pronoun.

Q7. Write the sentence and add the time connective that creates a sentence that makes sense. Circle it in your work.

Q8. Write the sentence and add a modal verb that fits. Underline the modal verb.

Q9. Write the sentence and add brackets to it. The boxes give you 4 possible options, pick 2.

Q10. Write which type of punctuation this text is using.
