As part of our G7 project week, year 5 has spent the day focusing on our key G7 county the USA. In order to highlight the cultural differences, we focused on 5 main areas.

American Football

Year 5 have also learnt to play American football, a new sport to most however year 5 showed great resilience, teamwork and tenacity to master some of the skills needed to succeed.

Artist research

The pupils have examined work from a great American artist Georgia O’Keeffe linking her beautiful work to our previously existing knowledge of American Geography and terrain.

Music and Dance

We have also looked at the importance of music on American culture and story telling tradition by summarising a country song whilst displaying our thoughts, feelings and emotions in relation to the lyrics. This was followed by learning to line dance in class which gave the children an opportunity display their imagination and brilliance whilst having great fun.

American Food

The children have had fun making some tasty pancakes (recipe attached) to explore some of the traditional American foods.

American Historical Culture

Finally, the children have built on their existing knowledge of Native American culture creating some amazing chronological reports to display their research and findings.

Well done year 5, you have all seized the opportunity to gain from todays lessons whilst having fun.
