This term in Topic, we have been learning about the 1960’s. Whilst our main Topic lessons have focused on British life, culture and events our Music lesson’s have focused on international issues such as the civil rights movement, equal votes for women and poverty inequality.
The children listened to artists such as James Brown, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Creedance Clearwater and the one and only Aretha Franklin.
We spoke about civil unrest and how this spurred people on to make music to show their anger.
The children then learnt the C – G – D – F chord progression which many of the era’s songs used. They wrote their own protest song lyrics and then recorded the two together using Garage Band. Have a listen to their songs:
