Wow! What a powerful opening to a flashback story written by Aishah Hussain.

I would like you to consider the following question and answer it in full in your homework books.

How has the writer (Aishah) created the theme of love in the opening paragraph?

Refer to the techniques the writer has used and the impact of these in your answer. You may use direct quotes to support your points.

I look forward to reading your Level 5 responses!

  12. That was a FANTASTIC piece of writing. The writer has used short sentences. This writers trick creates suspense as its building up to a sudden point in the story. But from reading my learning comment in class I know that using too many short sentences loses its effect. In the text there is a sentence which is ‘tears began to invade my eyes’, this sentence is a use of figurative language. The figurative language that this is, is personification as it is giving tears human abilities.

  13. The writer (me) has used figurative language effectively to reinforce the theme of love. I have used phrases such as ‘tingle of joy snaked through my body’ and ‘tears began to invade my eyes’. These phrases emphasise how the man felt about his love and they also create a strong image about how much he loved his wife. I have also used powerful and emotive vocabulary to portray his feelings. I have used words such as ‘blissful’ and ‘passion’. These words make the reader feel sympathy towards the character and emphasise his love and emotion.

Thank you for reading my writing and for the nice comments :)

  18. Aishah uses short sentences which makes the reader think about what the character is thinking about or maybe it tells a bit about the style of the flashback. As well as she uses a great use of powerful vocabulary. Such as “blissful, tingle of joy” and many more. Powerful vocabulary makes the writing interesting to read and makes it more powerful. A level 5 piece of punctuation that she uses is semi colon. The really great thing she uses is emotive language. Emotive language is good because the flashback is really sad. She uses emotive language such as “a love that would never die”. Emotive language makes the piece of writing in it’s style.

  19. She followed the steps; Powerful vocab Its effective make sense used eclipses in the right place that’s a level 6 piece of writing
