Year2- Caterpillars and Butterflies (22.05.20)

Another half term of home learning complete and you have all persevered and kept going. You’ve worked soo hard and we are all soo proud of you! Just like I did at the start of this half term, I am finishing my week with online games.

But first…. in English today, Miss Smith has introduced possessive apostrophes, we spoke about them yesterday when I was explaining contracting (which you smashed by the way!) Possessive Apostrophes are used to show that one thing belongs to or is connected to something.

Have a go at rewriting the sentences below so that they include a possessive apostrophe. I have done the first one for you…..

1. Sarah was playing with a doll that belonged to Katie.
*Sarah was playing with Katie’s doll.*
2. The ball that belongs to Jack is stuck up a tree.
3. The car that belongs to Richard is really fast.
4. The children liked stroking the dog that belongs to James.
5. The cat that has just had kittens belongs to Emily.

Well done Caterpillars & Butterflies, have fun playing these FREE online games- they are linked into what you have been learning this week.

https://www.education.com/game/apostrophe-drop/

Catch the contracting apostrophe in their baseball glove so that it falls in the proper place..

https://www.education.com/game/possessive-apostrophe-quiz/

Choose the correct possessive apostrophe from multiple choices on the board..

Log on to Education City and search for KS1 ‘Land Ahoy’ this will help you understand turns of: a quarter, a half and three-quarters and use the directions of left and right.

Make sure to complete all of you learning blogs. Send any work you have done and that you are proud of to Y2upload and finally have a lovely restful half term- You are all brilliant! Stay safe and hopefully we will see you soon ❤️.

      Great apostrophe work, Ibraheem.
When a word ends with ‘s’ you put the apostrophe after the ‘s’ or add an additional ‘s’ e.g- James’ or James’s.

      Great score on Education City!

To play the apostrophe games, click on the links, they’re not EduCity games.
If that doesn’t work copy and paste them.

      Great work, Elyas.
You have tried hard to put the apostrophes in the correct places.

Number 4 is a tricky one because the name James ends in ‘S’.

Words ending in ‘S’ can end in an apostrophe OR an additional ‘S’ can be added to show possession.

e.g. It is James’s birthday or it is James’ birthday.

Let me know your score on Education City.
