Yr 6 – 13.7 – PSHE, Honesty

It is tricky to be honest with others if we are not honest with ourselves. Below is a great TED talk that I found really impactful, it talks about honesty and how we must be honest with ourselves and others in order to have true friendships and to feel love. You need to be honest about who you truly are and let people in. This is an important attribute to have when transitioning into secondary school. You have the opportunity to make even more new friends! Watch the video below and then answer the questions below.

  1. I am worried I won’t get my dream job but instead, get one I hate.
I’m also worried about Secondary if I don’t understand the work.

Some things in life to celebrate.
Your achievements, and maybe the people around you/loved ones.
    I am proud of

    • Oh no Leeda, you are a creative and ambitious girl, you will gain lots of new experiences and you might even find new skills and a new dream job in the future. Optimism is key!

  2. My main concern is if i will have to make new friends, because i just wanna stay witht he friends i have right now.
I wanna celebrate the day my 6White friends all meet together, because all my friends had made a plan to meet at 19.

    • Hi Sunny, interesting concern but you most likely will naturally make new friends and as you grow older you will continue to meet different people and your friendship groups will grow. Remember to be optimistic!

  3. Create a List. Before you go to bed at night, create a list of all the things that you believe are worthy to celebrate.

A job that you love. …
    Your sense of style. …
    Your friends. …
    Your family. …
    Your ability to forgive. …
    Your past. …
Your demand for some alone time. …
We should be proud of our traditions and values.

  6. 1.)What is your opinion on the video?
My opinion in this video is that the women changed her life on being a honest and better person.
How this women used to live her life was bad because she never bad the right choice but now she has changed her life and made the right choices. What this lady is saying she is speaking the truth so I agree with her.

You should celebrate something that you have achieved or done a good thing.
4.)What is something that you are proud of?
I am proud of my young writer getting published. That was my goal to get it published.

  7. I believe that the woman lives her life well.I do agree with what the woman is sayig and that being honest with yourself is a good thing to do for your health, wellbeing and your overall outlook on life.
My current worries and concerns is that the goverment is reopening schools at september ,which is secondary school and if secondary school isn’t nerving enough the virus is still around.
Something to celebrate is passing an exam, breaking a record (whether that is a personal record or a world record) or learning something new.
I am proud that got greater depth on my estimated SATs score.

    • Good work Abdulwahab, you have every right to feel slightly anxious about schools in September reopening but remember schools will have a risk assessment in place to ensure health and safety.

    • Well done Abdulwahab. Make sure you read your sentences carefully and check your punctuation. I know this is a concern for many Abdulwahab but try not to worry about the virus. I’m sure the secondary schools will have things in place. Be proud of all your achievements.

  8. 1. My opinion on the video is good because she is encouraging us to always be honest and not lie about what we do.
    2. I don’t have any worries.
    3. Something to celebrate about be a birthday or good results in exams.

  9. I think that this is a very thoughtful video about how the lady became more honest. I did not like the fact that she was hiding herself away from others but I liked it when she became more confident in herself and also became more honest.

  10. 1)What is your opinion on the video ?
My opinion on the video is I think even though she felt heartbroken she never gave up she carried on living on her being honest , making the right choice . I also think she made a lot of friends with just being honest to everyone .
    2) What worries or concerns are you currently facing?
My worries are that no one is going to make friends with me because of my skin colour . I’m worried that I’m worried that I’m going to fail and then my parents won’t be happy.
    3) What is something to celebrate in life?
I would celebrate my graduation as it would be my last year in primary school and maybe the last I see my friends . Also I think when I pass my GSCS I will celebrate it .

  11. I think that the way the woman lives her life is good because she never tells lies about her self and how she lives. The one thing that concerns me is starting secondary school because what if I don’t make any friends that’s what makes me nervous. The thing that I could celebrate in life is when I pass my GCSE and get a good job in Uni. Something that I am proud of is getting a place in a good school which has a great system for year 7’s.

    • I’m sure there will be something to celebrate most days if you reflect back. Try not to be nervous you will make lots of new friends and remember your Broad Heath friends.

  12. 1. My opinion of the video is good because the lady is trying to encourage us to be honest. She is trying to tell us that honesty takes you a far in life. If you lie, then nobody would have trust in you and they might not let you do stuff that you might want to do. At first, I didn’t agree that she was hiding her secrets but then she learnt that she was supposed to show who she really was.
    2. I don’t have any concerns or worries.
    3. Something to celebrate in life is when something good happens or something important has been accomplished.
    4. I have achieved greater depth in most subjects which I am proud of.

  13. What is your opinion on the video? Do you agree with how this woman lives her life? Agree with what she is saying?
My opinion of the video is that the lady has suffered a lot, but she has turned it around by being honest. I agree that to fully know someone, you need to be honest.
What worries or concerns are you currently facing?
I’m a bit nervous that in Secondary School I won’t get any friends.
What is something to celebrate in life?
Something to celebrate in life is you and your family and friend’s achievements. Birthdays and religious ceremonies is also something to celebrate.
What is something that you are proud of?
I am proud that I passed my 11+ exam and that I am moving on to Secondary Grammar School.

  14. The lady had a little neighbor hood. Her neighbors and parents cared lots. With respect they knew her name. She lives her live good because she doesn’t lie and is a trusting person. I am kind of scared of secondary because I did not have transition and when starting it will be all new not knowing. I was scared of getting lost too.

    • Try not to be scared, stay positive. All the children are in the same situation and you will settle in fine. Do you think it is a good thing to always be honest even if it upsets people?

  15. 1. In the video I think that is a great way to live your life because you won’t lie and you will always be honest. Also in the video she showed some of her experiences but still persevered through them and that shows she has a great way to live her life.
    2. I’m worried about when I move into secondary school I might not be able to see my friends again. Also I am worried about moving schools because I don’t know about the school and all of the different buildings.
    3. Something to celebrate in life is when you accomplish something which is very important. Or getting really good marks on reports, tests and e.t.c.
    4. I am proud of for making such good friends in primary school. Also I am proud of getting good results in my reports and stats results.

  16. She started in a lovely town with parents who loved her a lot and neighbours who knew her by name. But then some of her close friends parents started binge drinking. Sadly one of her friends killed herself (very close friend). And now this lady has now thought she is worthless which you must not do in life and when it really gets to you, you will face difficulties. To overcome it is to always know that there is a way out. People only want honesty on this planet. Everyone in this world has lied. No one is perfect. Of course there will be many difficulties in your life whether you loved someone so much but they had passed away. We must learn that lieing is never an easy way out because they will always be found out. Honesty is better because you will be trusted.

    • A great recap of the video Zara! Yes it always pays off to be honest!

What occasions do you celebrate? How do you celebrate them ?
Reflect back on yourself and think of a moment of where you have achieved something ? What was this moment? How did you feel ?

  17. I think that the way she lives her life is good because she doesn’t lie about herself now. I’m scared to start secondary school but other than that I am not facing anything else. I think that something that I am proud of making friends and getting higher than expected in my report card.

  18. My opinion on the video is that she is trying to say honesty is the best policy and being honest about something for example expressing your feelings that you can’t keep inside like loosing a loved one.
I agree with how the woman lives her life because she is being honest and in the video it said she was in a trio where they ask each other 10 questions and they would give a brutally honest about there answer and the friend should give feed back to the person answering the question because it would make them feel better instead of feeling like you are keeping a secret locked inside.
I agree with what she is saying because you should have responsibility and be honest because it can make people feel better and instead of lying you should tell the truth so people can put themselves in your shoes.
What worries or concerns are you facing?
I ma worried for secondary school because while we have been in year 6 we are at the top of the school and we are going to be back at the bottom, I am also worried about not making friends easily because some people are shy and would get scared of asking people to be there friend if they don’t know them.
What is something to celebrate in life?
    An achievement.
A reward that you have won.
    Birthday.
    Competition winnings.
What is something that you are proud of?
I am proud of myself for making it to the end of year 6 and moving onto year 7, I am also proud of us being the survivors of Covid 19 and that i have went to Japan because it is a life changing experience.

    • Sofia please do not worry about secondary school, you will be absolutely fine ! Yes you should be proud of yourself for doing so well this year, it’s been a difficult year for us all.

What has been your biggest achievement?

  19. What is your opinion on the video? Do you agree with how this women lives her life? Agree with what she is saying?
In my opinion, I agree with what the women in the video is saying because I think that it is important to talk to other people when you face a difficulty in life as it will help you feel better once share with people you trust.Otherwise it you don’t then it could become unhealthy for your
    mental health and wellbeing.
What worries or concerns are you currently facing?

    • Hi Zuzanna, please please don’t worry about “failing” at secondary school! No one fails at secondary school, you will receive plenty of support and guidance. Just be honest and ask for help if you are struggling, you will be fine ! As for making friends you are such a lovely caring person that you will have no problems in making friends.

What have you achieved in your life which you personally proud off?

  20. 1) I think this video is meaningful because the woman is speaking of her experiences and how she fought to become a better, more honest person. I did not agree with how this woman lives her life at first because it is wrong, hiding yourself from who you are. Later in her life I think she makes the right choice. I agree with what she is saying because it is the truth.
2)I am worried about the transition from primary school to secondary school because I might get lost or reach school late on the first day.
    3) Something to celebrate in life is achievements. When you achieve your goals, that is something to celebrate.
    4) I am proud of achieving those goals that I have set for myself.

    • Well thought out response Hadisa👌🏼. Please don’t worry about getting lost in your new school, trust me everyone gets lost in the few weeks! The teachers will be very understanding and supportive. You will not get into trouble for getting lost in the first few weeks.
