Children return to school Mon 8th April

WOW what a week year 6, you’ve worked so hard unpicking and thinking of ways Rudyard’s poem still applies today.

As you know, yesterday you were planning advice and tips that you as experienced Broad Heathers could share with children who are currently in year 5.

Today, you need to put yourself in Rudyard’s writing shoes and write a similar style poem but with your experience and advice.

When you feel…

IF you find yourself going into a downwards spiral…

IF you’re unsure …

    No matter how much
    You’ve been broken
    You will keep rising
    From the ashes
    Of each burning day.

    If you can believe,
    but always acheive,
If you can reach for the stars
But not make that your aim

    Don’t wait for tomorrow,
    do it all today.
    If tomorrow never comes
you’ll never have remorse for a day.

  2. Azan S.

you can be what you want to be.
you can do what you want to do, abseloutly anything.
    all you need is believe.

uou can swim in the deepest ocean such as the pacific
You can run on the furthest track,
All you need is to be calm.

    You can try and fail,
But you can’t say you failed to try,

You can do anything you love.
And its ok to be bad at a hobbies.
As long as your determined you can achieve anything.

    All you need is believe,
And as long as you try.

    1. Miss Kaur

This is great Azan, please remember to use capital letters at the beginning of your sentences.

    Future year six,

    ~

    When walking into the classroom,
    Keep your head up,
    Be confident,
    Be positive.

    ~

    If you struggle,
    Don’t worry
    just ask for help,
    It’s okay to make mistakes!

    ~

    To get a headstart,
    You can study over summer,
Don’t go too hard on yourself though.

    ~

    Work as a team,
    Then you will achieve,
    The best of the best,
    And you will succeed!

    Try your best,
    Smile,
    Never give up,
    You can do it!

  5. Jeremi J.

    If
If you can keep focus on your teacher,
and not on the other things that others are doing.
If you could pass your tests and exams,
you could not be smart and thats your fault.
    Do your homework everyday,
practice, learn and keep your knowledge.

    1. Miss Vega

Can you check your second line? Do you think it is effective using others twice?

  6. Saif K.

  10. Haya S.

if we succeed we will take the lead
everything we do we will go-ahead

    1. Mr Inman

Keep being brilliant Haya. You have such a great life to look forward to and shouldn’t let anything get in your way. Try your best at everything you do.

      1. Mrs Janjua

Short and sweet (like me!) well done Haya!

  11. Humaira K.

    IF POEM:
    ——————————————-
If you have a positive mindset,
    You will achieve high.
    If you are good,
You will be a role model.
    Achieve high.
    ———————————–
    If you think negative,
    You won’t achieve high.
    If you think works hard,
It isn’t you need to put in effort.
    Achieve high.
    —————————————

    1. Mr Inman

It’s really hard sometimes and we have to make decisions and choices that help us to have a ‘positive mindset’. Probably the easiest way is through exercise; when we exercise, we release chemicals into our brains that make us feel happier about life!

Thank you for your beautiful and thoughtful words.

      1. Mrs Janjua

Great poem and great advice from Mr Inman also!

        1. Humaira K.

          Thanks.

  12. Inaaya H.

I will send you my poem.

    1. Mr Inman

      I await with eager anticipation!!

      1. Mrs Janjua

        As do I Inaaya.

  13. Raumaan A.

    Year 6 poem:
    No need to panic
    It’s all fun and games
You could learn about the vast Atlantic
    And make it your aim.

Or you could sharpen your brain
The teachers are amazing leading the way
You could rise high like a plane
Or make a master piece out of clay.

Don’t be afraid of your mistakes
Learn from them and you can succeed
Because you have what it takes.
But always choose the right path or you could be mislead.

Your time as year 5 has come to an end
But your time as year six has woken again
But make sure everybody is treated like your friend
Learn as quick as a train

    Remember your tricks and tips
As they will come in handy
    In Year 6.

    1. Mr Inman

This is really special! The rhyme scheme is fantastic as is your choice of language. I love that you have varied the activities available in year 6. From the Atlantic to clay!

      1. Raumaan A.

        Thank you Mr Inman.

  14. Anya D.

    IF:
    ~
If you are ready to learn,
    And eager to discover,
    If you actually yearn,
    To have a positive attitude,
    For learning new things.
    ~
If you can buy a SAT’s worksheet,
    And practise all Summer,
Your work would be pretty neat,
If you can buy some books,
    And keep your brain fresh.
    ~
If you can continue to read,
    Without no teacher forcing you,
    Then you are guaranteed,
    To succeed.
    ~
If you can help your peers,
    When they are struggling,
Then you will live your years,
Knowing you have helped one to succeed.
If you can encourage, and not discourage.
    ~
If you work as a team,
    You shall achieve things faster,
You shall be living a dream,
    Afterall, “Teamwork Makes Dreamwork”,
If you can cooperate with your classmates.
    ~
    If you respect your teachers,
    You’ll stay out of trouble,
    Otherwise, the class-teachers
    Will raise their voices.
    ~
    If you respect your classmate,
Only the will you work in a proper team,
    And that’s your fate,
It’s not as bad as it seems.
If you can focus on your work.
    ~
If you can do all these things,
    You shall survive Year 6,
    You will also grow wings,
And soar high into the sky!

    1. Mr Inman

Wow! Just wow!! Your rhyme scheme is fantastic! I also love that it doesn’t all rhyme, sometimes, too much rhyming shift emphasis away from the language!

I personally would have not used teachers to rhyme with teachers! Unfortunately, the term that springs to mind is preachers!! Maybe not!

      1. Anya D.

Thank you!! :D When I was looking for something to rhyme with teachers i couldn’t find anything that rhymes and also goes with the poem.

        1. Mr Inman

Indeed! My suggestion was more a joke than anything constructive!

        2. Mr Inman

And thank you so much for responding to the feedback. It’s great when you do.

  15. Nargis B.

    Poem: Hi Year 5
    Dear Year 5s,
You should hold your head up high,
    When entering Year 6,
It’s very easy if you try hard and be resilient,
    Push yourself to higher challenges,
    Have fun and shine bright,
    Your a star!
In this summer holiday coming up,
    Practise, practise, practise
    And you’ll be high,
    Don’t be scared,
Year 6 is no difference than Year 5,
The only difference is you get pushed to challenges more and SATS.

    Nargis!

    1. Mr Inman

Well not for you!! But yes, you should embrace challenge. When things become more difficult, you have to try harder to achieve and gain.

  16. Kinzah Q.

If you can stay confident when everyone around you are negative,
If you can achieve despite the circumstances,
If you can lead when all around you follow,
Your heart will hopefully have no room for sorrow.

If you can stay on the right path when others have gone astray,
If you can move on when others just like to stay,
If you can be tolerant when others have no patience,
Year 6 will be great, no time for a hindrance.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,
Just stay strong and never be afraid,
Although at times life can be difficult,
Look at the bright side, there’s always something magnificent.

    1. Mr Inman

You have typified this poem, not only with the words that you write, but with the actions and attitude that you have displayed.

    2. Miss Kaur

Kinzah this is lovely, just like Mr Inman said this resembles you !

  17. Devanshi S.

Here is my poem…. I went for a different styles and it is based on the freedom of life.

    Live your life,
Live your life because each moment is filled with
    Something new,
    Life is so beautiful,
    As the first morning dew,
Smile because you are still alive,
So what if there are struggles,
    Just strive,
Smile because this day is new,
Smile because it will only affect you!

    1. Mr Inman

I love the somewhat strange and innovative use of language. At points it’s almost jarring. I can also read it with the same breaths that you have taken, it has pulse and rhythm.

I think that the second ‘life’ that you have written should be ‘live’. Would you like me to change it for you?

      1. Devanshi S.

        Oh sorry… Yes please can you do so… I made a typo😅

        1. Mr Inman

          A pleasure to help Devanshi.

  18. Hadisa D.

I have written a poem and sent a picture of it.

    1. Mrs Ahmed

I have uploaded it on the gallery and above! Absolutely amazing Hadisa, I am sure it will be displayed alongside the current IF poem in the year 6 classes next year.

  19. Kinzah Q.

Should I write mine on the blog since my email doesn’t work. It’s faulty…

    1. Mrs Ahmed

Of course, we would love to read it in any format.

  20. Laraib T.

    Poem:
    You shouldn’t be afraid,
    Have fun and enjoy,
    Focus on your grades,
The teachers will be a joy,

Don’t get upset when you make a mistake,
    You will succeed,
Once you understand year 6 it will be a piece of cake,
    You need to lead yourself,

    Hope you enjoy year 6,
Practise in the holiday and you’ll be just fine,
    Remember the tricks,
    Be bright and shine high.

    1. Mrs Ahmed
