For the second year in a row both Broad Heath boys and girls teams had been chosen to represent Coventry West at the county rowing championships after winning the local Coventry competition. Both teams had a lot to aspire to as the school were the current champions in both events, and the students were certainly up for the challenge.
The event consisted of two parts – the individual row where each competitor rows for 90 seconds, followed by a team relay of 4 minutes, 1 minute per team member. This is quite a challenging time to work at your hardest, as it is longer than your average sprint but still short enough that you have to be working at your maximum.
As it was, both teams did fantastically well, coming in 2nd place to add to their winners medals in the previous round. As always it was a team effort so thanks go to the reserve rowers and sports leaders, as well as to Miss Shilton for all her hard work putting in the rowing sessions at break and lunchtime.
Well done to all the students who took part, the school are very proud of your performance, and we couldn’t have asked for any more tenacity, teamwork or brilliance from you.
As 3 of the students who represented the school are current year 5 pupils, we look forward to even more success next year.
