This week, your child will be coming home with their new reading book which has been carefully matched to their phonics abilities. Your child would be coming home with one of the following books and it is important that you take the time to read with your child everyday.

Picture books- please look at the pictures with your child and encourage your child to talk about what they can see. Sound out some of the pictures and encourage your child to say those sounds and the words eg: Adult: ‘I can see a c-a-t’ , child: ‘c-a-t cat’. Here is a video to help you practise sound blending with your child at home.

Ditty cards – These are red and white laminated cards with sentences on them. Some of them contains red words. It is important that you are helping your child to recognise the red words when reading their book. Every Monday, your child will bring home the red ditty card then on a Thursday they will bring home an additional red ditty card.
