We had an absolutely fantastic time on World Book Day!
In Year 4, we focused on Georgeโs Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. First, we read part of the story to see all the weird and wonderful things that George put into his replacement medicine for his grandmother. Then we helped put together our own batch of medicine!
Next, we imagined we were George and wrote a diary entry about putting together the medicine, thinking about all the different ingredients we could add from different parts of the house.
After that, we focused a little more on Grandma. After reading various extracts from the book, we used our inference skills to describe her personality and made character profiles of what she could have been like as a little girl, imagining what could have happened to make her so nasty to poor George!
Finally, we discussed onomatopoeia and the different sounds we might hear while making a marvellous medicine. We made artwork using these words, inspired by Andy Warhol and the Pop Art movement. We loved making bright, bold patterns using the primary colours.
But of course, the best part of the day was seeing everybodyโs amazing costumes!
What would you put in your marvellous medicine?
What does onomatopoeia mean?
