    The answer would be 121 because the formula is x3 and then +1. So if there is 40 octagons you have to do:
    40×3= 120
    120+1= 121 squares.

    The answer is 121… I know this because the formula to work out the pattern is 3x+1 (number of octagons multiplied by 3 + 1)… 3 x 40 = 120 & 120+1=121…
