It appears we have a class of Romans in 4 White, given how superb the children were with their Roman Numerals work today! Below is a glimpse of their fantastic work, creating Roman Numerals with matchsticks.

And now, a couple of questions for you lovely Romans.

a) What is the rule we need to remember, as shown with numbers like IV and VI?

b) True or false? VIIII = 9. Explain.

    vllll=9, it is wrong because the answer is lX.

    a) VI is 6 because 5 add 1 equals 6 and IV is 5 takeaway 1 equals 4.
    b) It is wrong because IX is 9 not VIIII.

    VIIII is 9 because if we know V is 5 and IIII is 4 and 5+4=9 and the Roman number 9 has 4 and 5

    You need to know when VI places you add 5 + 1= 6. VIII isn’t correct because IX is 9 and VIII is 8 because V is 5 VI is 6 VII is 7 VIII is 8 and then IX is 9.
