5 Blue- European day

Today 5 Blue have been learning about Germany!
After a discussion at the start of the day, it was clear that we had limited knowledge of Germany so we have made lots of progress today!

Geography
We have developed our mapping skills and interpreting data through using Atlases. We discussed the best way to locate information through using the index and contents page.

What have you learnt about using an Atlas? What knowledge have you learnt about Germany through looking at the range of maps?

The children were given the question

“ Why should we visit Germany in our lifetime?”

They worked in teams to answer the question in their own way. This included posters, drama and an I-movie presentation.

Music

We listened to the Germany’s national anthem and our Own national anthem. We discussed how it made us feel and the meaning behind the words.

What is an anthem? What comparisons did you make between them?

Dance

We learnt about and participated in a schuhplattler dance. what does schuh mean? what about plattler? What did you think about this dance?

Food tasting

We sat together and tasted some Traditional german food whilst listening to some German music. We had the opportunity to taste a pretzel and some Sauerkraut.

What did you think of these dishes?

Language

we learnt some German greetings. What are these children saying?

    I can locate Germany on a Atlas. You can know were the country your looking for and also the climate. Rich or poor. You can know capital and the boarding country.
    An Anthem is a song to that country like ours is Save the Queen. The instruments.
    In my opinion I did not really like the food.
    Schuh mean shoe.
    Platter is a large dish.
    The dance was hard to do but overall challenging.
    They said hallo which is hello and I forgot the rest.
    This was a fun day.

    It was lovely learning about Germany , the language music entertainment and the famous landmarks.
    We learned about the wall that split west Germany to the other Germany, and how people gathered and took the wall down to make One Germany.
