I learned that children used to do hard work in shops and they didn’t get but they got a few sweets. When they got back home , they had to share there sweets and the way they would dComment
o that is they all had one lick of the sweets. When they went school it would cost a lot so the parents only sent the brightest child. They learnt things in school and when they came home they would teach the family what they learnt. Back then they used to eat candles and there was a green candle and it made you very sick. They would brake the top off of the candle and put it on the floor for the rats to eat and when the rats ate it they would get poisoned.Kids started to work in the coal mines at the age of 5 yearsd

I have learnt that Victorian used a type of bird to see if there is any bad gases.
At age 5 and 6 children had to work in the coal mines.

  7. Nihit N.

    1. I enjoyed the school the most.
    2. I learned that Queen Victoria married her cousin, Prince Albert, the Big Ben was finished on 1859 and that children would be made to wear a dunce’s hat as a punishment.
    3. Most children started at eight years old, but some were as young as five.

  8. Safah D.

    1. I enjoyed the part when we went in the Victorian school.
    2. A fact is that when Victorian adults/teenagers worked at sweet shops they would most likely not get payed and instead get payed in 2 sweets a week. When they arrived home they would pass the sweet around by licking it and that was the closest poor families got to eat sweets.
Another fact is that When Victorian poor families had a bath (mostly once a week) they would share the same water and the cleanest would go first leaving the dirtiest last mostly the dad as he had a disgusting job.
The last fact I leant was that at school you would use your right hand to write because Victorian’s only beloved in 1 religion and in there religion they angel was on the right hand and the devil was on the left and if you didn’t listen they would tie your left hand also they beloved the devil represented evil.
    3. That most likely age people would go in the mines were 12-16 as they could also fit in the mines as they aren’t very tall.

    1. The thing that enjoyed about the trip most was when the lady showed us what happens in the Cole mines and how to keep your body safe by covering it in water.

    2. Three interesting facts I have learnt today were that Cole was he only thing that powered steam trains and fires. Another interesting fact that l have learnt today is that the smartest child had to go to school, if the family couldn’t afford it and then they would have to come back home and teach the rest of the family . One more interesting fact that l have learnt today is that the people in the mine used to call the dangerous gases, methane and carbon dioxide, choke damp and fire damp.

    3. The age of the children that had to go down in the mine was about 9 to 10 .

  11. Zaeem S.

I enjoyed when that women lit her hand on fire 🔥.
In school they force the kids to write with there right hand because the believe the good angel 😇 is on the right.
When poor kids wanted sweets they had to work there and they would get one or 2 sweets and share it with there family be licking it one at a time.
The sweets are mostly used as medicine/tablets they would help any person who is sick.
When the children were 10 there would go with there dad’s and work from 12 to 18 hours a day.

  12. Saee N.

The part I enjoyed about the trip was when a man called Mick and he put a special water on his hand and then he lit the fire on his hand as well but his hand didn’t burn.
The other part I liked was if you are like 6 years old then you can go to the shops to get sweats or bread , groceries alone but the parents need to sign a note saying that our child can get groceries or sweats by them selves for there whole family.
One new interesting fact I have found was when you want to warm your house or do cooking the only way they made fire was by coals and get it in the correct shape.
The young girls and Women’s jobs were to get the coals into the right shape.
At 10 years of age the boys needed to work in the cold mine an sweep all of the blackness of the chimney and when they finished sweeping the first chimney the would move onto the next one.

    1. Saee N.

The museum was named the Black country museum because the smokes that was coming out of the chimney was black that’s why it was called Black country museum and also when Queen Victoria came in a train to black country she wouldn’t look at a single bit because there was some construction and it was all black.
One fact already know was that when Queen Victoria’s husband died she wore all black.
