Why are Scientists important to modern-day life?
This is the big question Year 5 have been investigating this week. We learned about different scientists each day and completed work around each of them. Step into the Fabulous 5Red week of learning.
David Attenborough – We were able to describe the life and work of Attenborough and we researched some strange and wonderful animals to create a triarama.
Crime scene investigation – this type of science is very important for solving crimes. We looked at Chromatography, exhibits and fingerprints. We were given a murder to solve and we used our newly developed skills to find out the murderer. It was very fun.
Researched our own scientists – Today we were given a challenge to research a person who has made an impact on our everyday lives. This was very eye opening for our children. Here is some of the work we completed.
Eva Crane – Eva Crane was a fantastic scientist how championed the Bees.🐝 She understood their importance and studied them for the rest of her life. We completed many different things, we researched the life cycle of a bee, we then created fact files about Eva Crane. Next we went on a bug hunt where we looked at different bugs habitats. Finally, we made a big hotel.
Leonardo Da Vinci – the oldest scientist we looked at this week was Da Vinci. He was considered to be the most intelligent man of all time. This was due to his amazing scientific brain which he used to paint the Mona Lisa and stretched the first prototype helicopter. We then tested his theories about proportions of our bodies.
- Which scientist was your favourite and why?
- Which scientist has had the largest impact on modern day life?
