Another amazing week in The HIve, as we continue with our topic ‘Living and Growing’. Our focus this week was around ‘Plants’.
We started the week by listening to a story during our carpet time, to introduce us to the life cycle of a plant.
We got musical and created a mini dance about the life cycle of a plant. We danced to ‘Waltz Of Flowers’ by Tchaikovsky.
During the week, we went exploring on a nature trail around the forest area of the school. We looked and touched different types of plants and flowers. We brought with us some magnifying glasses to help us explore them closer. Miss Jephcott brought in a plant for us to explore. We used our 3 out of 5 senses to help us to investigate the plant, these were touch, sight and smell. The children loved the feeling of the plant, it had a spiked texture.
For our Maths learning this week, we collected different sized stones and placed these in size order, when we returned back to the The Hive. We then furthered our practical learning and used cubes to help measure how tall the plant was. We counted there were a total of 22!
To end our week we got creative and made our own plants out of tissue paper and cupcake cases. We used and improved our gross/ fine motor skills. Which involved holding and using a pair of scissors properly with adult support.
Please take a look at some of the photos from our week☺️
Have a great weekend! See you all Monday! For some more learning fun 🤩
