Comparing and describing two settings

This half term in English, Year 6 are writing an adventure story based on โ€˜Journey to the Centre of the Earthโ€™. To help prepare us with our writing, we created a bank of descriptive language for two settings. 6 Blue had to describe the mine and the centre of the earth using the five senses.

Challenge: Compare and describe the settings below using a range of descriptive phrases.
The best descriptions will win two table pegs.

    Mine:
As you walked onto the ice cold ground , you could see a never ending hall way as you are walking through the never ending hallway you can hear a loud echo gushing vibrantly.
There was nothing but a dusty, musty, crusty, rusty rail way you can here the rats scuttling, and rocks crumbling into peices.

    Center of the Earth:
nature attracting everyones eyes, you can see the crystal water gushing through the rocks. you can feel the emerald grassy trees as you are walking. you can hear the crunching leaves beneath your feet. the bioluminus birds were so beautiful you wish you could take one home.you can feel the radiant sun beaming against your skin you could feel the water touching you so softly like a teddy bear.

Out of curiosity you step into a abandoned dusty mine not knowing what is in there. As you step in you see the long never ending , barren hallway . However it is really dark in there which.leads to touching a sharp pointy rock that looks like it is as sharp as a pencil. The echoes start arising as you continue to walk straight forward . Rats start to dash around the room giving you goosebumps from all the tiny taps on the wooden floor. Then you find a mysterious carriage thats awaiting to be sat on. Without thinking , you jump into the carriage and head to somewhere ….

    Center of the Earth
You start to walk and straight away you are attracted by the nature around you however something that caught your eye the most was the emerald green palm trees that waves at you like a human hand . Out of nowhere you hear a loud crunch from beneath your feet not knowing it was the leaves that were all the perfect shape. Once you reach the end you see a huge body of water that glistens in the radiant sun. Peacefulness fills your mind when you first hear the gushing crystal blue water from the waterfall that lands into the lagon. Colourful birds starts filling the sky singing their beautiful tunes .

    Comparisons
    Differences
There are lots of big differences between both places like the mine is all gloomy , dark and gives you sadness whilst the centre of the Earth gives you sparks of joy , happiness and peacefulness.
    Similarities
There are not quite as many similarities than differences however there is one huge similarity which is they are both adventures in their own way .

Walking through, this filthy old alley way you could see pills of bricks blocking ways you could go through. During this place you could clearly hear echoes coming through the deepest darkest places you could ever go through, looking in all the piles of mess I can tell a lot of dust musty people have been hear. Since it was the only darkest thing you see , you can’t tell if rocks are going to start jabbing right on top of you , not even realising your hands look as filthy as a cole , it starts poring muddy gorse manure right on top of you I can’t imagine it happening now.Great now your governed in horse manure , hands looking like you took a good touch on the dusty musty walls in the mines, but it only get worse from this , while trying to find a way out of this annoying mess you step in the biggest puddle of soil! Eeew!!!!

    Center of the Earth
As you start to think there absolutely no way ur going to make it out , you finally found a way out but its not what you think it is……..
It is the most mesmerising thing you have ever seen in your entire life its so beautiful, it has birds tweeting , small animals taking please don’t forget the crystal blue sea water also the water fall matching right within it , birds flying right passes your eyes making sure you see right into crystal clear birds (but actually it’s just a really shiny bird) waves calmly flowing from right to left.Mountain looking beautiful as ever making sure there is not a single dentist making a difference to the others, also feathers flowing left to right looking sparkly as ever making it look realistic as possible!

    Comparison
Mine dark scary dust musty crusty as ever while Center of the Earth looking beautiful as a rainbow in the sky !

As you walk through the dusty, old halls of the mine all you can feel is the squidgy mud beneath your feet and the wooden tracks. Since, it is the darkness you feel around the mines and you can feel the spiky rocks jabbing into your sore hands. While you are in the carriage the substance of the wood is curvy and rough. All you can hear in the mine is the beastly echos of your voice and the stomping of your feet. In the distance, you can hear the noise of the trains slowly passing by. Scuttling rats zoom across the floors of the mine creating a low noise of rattling. In the old abandoned mines, you can see the rotting of the post which are above your head and on the sides of you. Random pieces of woods are scattered beneath the floor which means you keep tripping up. Thick cracks of rocks crumble on the walls as you see the train tracks further in the distance. Tiny raindrops trickle through the gaps of the mines creating dirty ,muddy water falling randomly on your head.

    Centre of the Earth
While you walk across the emerald green leaves you can see the glistening, crystal water flowing down the crumbling rocks. You can see the colourful beams of sunlight blinding in your eyes as the little birds fly across your head. The green, emerald leaves give you a vibrant taste of nature. The peaceful noises of the gushing water flows down the crumbling rocks as it suddenly goes into the lake creating a peaceful noise of gentle waves. Cute, little birds sing their songs as animals trample over the crumbling leaves. When you walk across the satisfying leaves you can feel the gentle fragrance of the floor. The water trickles through your feet creating your feet to feel cold and icy. Excitedly, the birds brush past your head and the warm, soft feathers stroke you peacefully.

    Comparison
The differences between the two different places is that the centre of the earth is more peaceful, calming and gentle but in the mines there is a sudden feeling running through your mind that something sudden will happen
The similarities is that they both include a journey that you travel to, to end up in a place far away from danger.
