Children at Broad Heath learn phonics using the Read, Write Inc Scheme. The skills and techniques are taught from Nursery to Year 2. However children who require further support get it in the form of intervention.
If you would like to learn phonics, we have a dedicated section made by one of our wonderful teachers. Click here
At Broad Heath, children are given reading books from the Oxford Reading Tree scheme that focus on practising and applying phonic skills, information related to the curriculum and comprehension of the text.
Once children have become confident readers, they may become a ‘Free Reader’ where they can pick an appropriate book to continue their development from the class bookshelf or the school library.
If you would like to support your child further at home, you can sign up to Oxford Owl where you will find lots of ebooks that they can read or even have them read to them.
