Detective Decoder Wheel.

Hello 5 Red, as you have all been doing a super job with your detective work in English. I thought it would be a good idea for you to continue this at home and create a DETECTIVE DECODER WHEEL!! A fun way to leave code messages for your parents, carers or siblings, so let’s begin!

Equipment you will need: 1)Paper or card 2) Felt tips 3) Something circular to draw around 4) A ruler, 6) Split pin for the middle section or something to pin them together 7) Scissors, please be careful when you are using them.

Below are the step by step pictures of the decoder wheel I have made. Once you have created your DECODER bring it into class to share with others. Will they be able to solve it?!

STEP 1- FIRSTLY, DRAW AROUND SOMETHING CIRCULAR, ONE HAS TO BE SMALLER THEN THE OTHER.

STEP2- NEXT, CIRCLE INSIDE OF YOUR WHEELS.

STEP 3-USING A RULER, DRAW 26 SQUARES IN BOTH CIRCLES.

STEP 4- WRITE THE ALPHABET IN ORDER IN EACH SQUARE ON THE LARGE CIRCLE.

– ADD NUMBERS IN THE SQUARES FOR THE SMALLER CIRCLE. COLOUR THEM BOTH IN AND THEN CUT THEM OUT.

STEP 5- GET A PENCIL TO PIERCE THE CENTRE AND PLACE A SPLIT PIN OR SOMETHING TO HOLD THEM TOGETHER IN THE MIDDLE, MAKING SURE YOU CAN STILL TURN THE WHEELS.

FINALLY- LINE YOUR ‘1’ FROM YOUR SMALLER CIRCLE AND ‘A’ FROM YOUR LARGE CIRCLE, MAKING SURE THEY ARE ALWAYS LINED UP. YOU THEN CREATE YOUR SECRET CODE. LOOK AT MY DECODER WHEEL BELOW.

IT DOESN’T NEED TO BE THE SAME AS MINE, WHY NOT CREATE YOUR OWN! YOURS COULD HAVE LETTERS IN THE MIDDLE, IT COULD BE RECTANGULAR. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOUR CREATIONS, HAVE FUN!
