This week, 6 Blue have been exploring shape and to make it more interesting we created a league table and worked in teams to see who would come out on top. To earn points for their team, 6B had to use our school values when working in their teams and also in their presentation and behaviour.
Exploring 2D shapes
We created posters with the properties of 2D shapes. Using this knowledge, in teams 6B had to create a football pitch and explain why they chose those shapes and how they’re effective.
Exploring 3D shapes
We created posters with the properties of 3D shapes. Using our knowledge on 3D shapes, we came up with a question of our choice and investigated the answers.
Exploring the connection between the faces, vertices and edges of 3D shapes
6 Blue created double page spreads to showcase their investigations about the connections between faces, vertices and edges of 3D shapes. Their investigations also included Euler’s formula: F+V-E=
Understanding how to create nets of 3D shapes
6 Blue explored and created their own nets. They had to explain why their nets did/did not work. After this, 6 Blue created their own footballs using a net!
Illustrating and naming the parts of a circle
In our groups we completed a range of challenges on teams. We investigated circles and worked out their radius, diameters and circumferences.
Drawing and translating simple shapes
We learnt that a translation moves a shape up, down or side to side but it does not change its appearance in any other way.
What is Euler’s formula?
