Today was Maya Day in Year 6 and what a wonderful day it has been! So many of the Year 6 cohort blew us away with their costumes. We have seen ancient spears created, faces painted and headgear fit for emperors!
When then got started with our Mayan Vessels: the final product of our DT product this half term. We learnt how to use the coil method, something that we have not done before. To ensure that the pieces stuck together, we had to create a special paste. Can you tell me what that is called?
The next step was to etch our name onto our vessel. We created our name in Maya Hieroglyphics. How amazing did they look?
Soon after, we created a SOLE project on the FairTrade regime. We looked at how buying chocolate here in the UK can help others across the world. Not only this we analysed how the money reaches these people and how the workers are selected to be part of the regime.
We continued our study on chocolate by creating tasty treats that the Mayans may have been able to create. We ensured that each of the ingredients were available during that time period. We taste tested a variety of different chocolates too. Did you know white ‘chocolate’ isn’t even classified as chocolate? Why?
