Reception – RWI – Speed Sounds Book.

Your child has been learning Speed Sounds in school as part of their Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons. Your child has been sent home with a Speed Sounds Book so you can practice reading and writing sounds at home.

As you look at the book at home with your child, ask them to say the sound on each right-hand page. If they can’t, turn the page to remind them of the picture prompt they have learnt for the sound and read the prompt to them. Soon they will be able to read the sound without the picture prompt.

Watch the video guide to help your child practise saying the ‘pure’ sounds: Oxford Owl for parents, at www.oxfordowl.co.uk or on www.ruthmiskin.com

Do not use letter names, as this may confuse your child.

Your child can also practise writing the sounds in the handwriting spaces on each left-hand page. There is a handwriting phrase for you to read to them to help them remember how to write the letters.

Please keep these books in your child’s reading folder. If you have any questions, please pop and see a member of the Reception Team.
