RW – The Gruffalo – Literacy.

Today we introduced our new topic for this term ‘Our Favourite Stories’. Our book for this week is a Julia Donaldson classic, The Gruffalo. We shared the story and talked about what happens in the story with our talking partners. We thought about our favourite part of the story and discussed this using developing full sentences and also beginning to give reasons for our responses.

We looked carefully at the Gruffalo and spoke about what he looked like. We used new vocabulary to describe what the Gruffalo looked like and how he behaved and felt. We used a simple stem sentence of ‘He is…’ and ‘He has…’ to describe him verbally. We then used our phonic knowledge to write simple sentences. Take a look at our independent writing below.
