This week was our final week of learning all about People Who Help Us. We have been learning all about …FIREFIGHTERS this week!
Writing – To spell words by identifying the sounds and writing the sound with letters.
The children learnt about FireFighters and in particular their uniform. They used their phonetic knowledge to label a diagram of a FireFighter and then wrote some simple sentences about them remembering finger spaces, full stops and capital letters.
Maths – To understand numbers to 10.
The children worked in groups to find a selection of hidden cuddly toys in the outdoor area. They put these objects into a tens frame and discussed (using the tens frame to help) how many they had found and how many were still hiding.
The children were able to count the correct amount of cubes into numbered bowls. They looked carefully at the pots and identified which two bowls had ten in total. The explored if there was more that one way to do this. They worked out if there was more than one way to do this and drew what they found out.
SEAL – I know not to talk to strangers and who to go to for help in different situations.
The children learnt about ‘Stranger Danger’. They discussed why they should not talk to strangers and identified who they could go to for help in different situations.
EAD – To explore, use and refine a variety of artistic effects.
The children used their creative skills to create a painting of a FireFighter. They self selected colours to use and thought about different equipment that a FireFighter has.
CL and UW – To ask questions to find out more and check they understand what has been said to them.
We had a very exciting visit from our local Foleshill FireFIghters! The children asked sensible questions and found out lots of information about being a FireFighter. They had a good look around the Fire Engine and listened carefully to the FireFighters!
Maths – To develop a deeper understanding of pattern.
The children identified different patterns. Using a variety of different resources both inside the classroom and in the outdoor area the children created their own two and three way repeated patterns.
