Science week in 5 White

Monday

We started the day by researching David Attenborough’s life and achievements. Following on from that ,individually we researched a wild animal. Finding out everything about that animal, from habitat to diet and characteristics. From our notes we created a fact file about the animal and then presented our information as a documentary in the style of David Attenborough.

What have you learnt about David Attenborough?
What skills and values did you use making your documentary?

Tuesday

Our challenge and learning today was to solve a crime. We looked at evidence which involved chromatography, fibre samples and finger prints. We examined the evidence and discussed possibilities.

What is a CSI Technician?
What is chromatography?
How was this investigation challenging?
What type of finger print did you have? Whorl, arch or loop?

Wednesday

We have learnt about Eva Crane and her work with bees. We completed a time line of her life including key dates and facts.

What was Eva given as a wedding gift?

We went on to learn all about the life cycle of bees. Using our new knowledge we created posters with the information.

In the afternoon we went on a bug hunt looking at the environment in which they live in. We went on to collect a variety of material in order to make our own bug hotel. It was fun making them.

Thursday

Using iPads we researched space travel. We then created a time line of key events in chronological order.

For active maths we consolidated our learning on volume and capacity. Our challenge using cubes was to find the capacity of different size boxes.

Da Vinci Art

We researched the amazing Leonardo Da Vinci and his life as a “Renaissance Man”. We learnt that he was a scientist, inventor and artist. One of his areas of expertise was anatomy (the study of the human body) and we used the ideas from the Vitruvian Man to draw well proportioned figures.

I learnt that David Attenborough is very fond of animals and nature.
I used teamwork to do the documentary.
A csi technician is a person who examines evidence and uses it to find the culprit.
Chromatography in when ink separates into other colours using water and paper.
It was challenging since the evidence could have been false.
    Markus Isah and Raiyan.

    1. A CSI technician is someone who comes to the crime scene to investigate things and looks for clues like finger print , cloth , chromatography etc .
    2. A chromatography is a type of evidence so get for example blue paper towel and get any form of ink and draw a line across the paper and soak it in the water and it could change colour.

I accidentally commented on Rayan M blog sorry

A csi is a crime scene investigator they investigate the clues in the crime scene they wear a mask and gloves and a suit so none of their DNA touches the clues.

Investigation is a challenge as most of the time there’s a red herring which means they have the wrong clue and they made a mistake which leads us to the wrong path.

The finger print I have is whorl.

  9. Xlexben F.

    What is a CSI Technician?
They are people who investigate crimes and find the evidence and find out the suspect
    What is chromatography?
a technique for the separation of a mixture by passing it in solution or suspension through a medium in which the components move at different rates.
What type of finger print did you have? Whorl, arch or loop?
    I have a loop fingerprint.

CSI is a crime scene investigation.
When you draw a line in a piece of paper then smudge it in water .
Because we did not know who it was .
    I used loop.
I have learnt that he only married Jane Elizabeth and that in the Second World War his family adopted 2 Jewish girls .
I used teamwork because we worked as a team and then we all agreed and never argued.

  11. Ammara K.

I learnt that David Attenborough made documentaries about rare animals.
We used the skills teamwork, confidence and resilience

CSI technician is when there is a crime you try to solve it and they go to the crime to see some clues
Some clues are fingerprints and chromotography . They would have to wear a full body suit so it would not contaminate the area.
When you test ink and when it moves around
This investigation is a challenge because there could be a red herring
    I had a whorl fingerprint.

      3. An investigation is challenging because you have to do a lot to investigate who the suspect is.

      4. My fingerprint is a loop.

I have learnt that David Attenborough spent two years in the Royal Navy.

When we found a red herring while trying to solve the case in the ‘fibres’ section.

What type of finger print did you have? Whorl, arch or loop?
    Arch.

    1. Ibrahim M.

CSI investigators have to wear full body suits so they don’t contaminate the clues. They try to figure out who committed a crime by looking at fingerprints, DNA and other clues, like footprints.

  15. Adam J.

CSI use science in crime for a example if there was a murder they will look at there finger print or check if someone saw it.

  16. Adam J.

I have learnt that David Attenborough has been in about 100 or more documentaries about wild life his first one was called zoo cast in BBC. David Attenborough had 2 brothers one was called Richard Attenborough and another was called John Attenborough.
I used the value of teamwork by helping in the documentaries with Kamil and Ayaan.
CSI stands for crime scene investigation.
This was challenging because some of the words I didn’t understand.
I have a arch finger print.

  17. Zahra D.

I learnt that David used to do documentaries about animals.
I used resilience for when my documentary got deleted.
A csi technician is a crime scene investigator who wear special clothing so when they’re getting clues, their marks don’t go on it.
Chromotagraphy is when a pen gets in water which smudges into a different colour.
It was challenging because we didnt know who it was ,the culprit.
    I had a arch fingerprint.

  18. Tipian I.

I learnt how David Attenborough ‘s life was / is and some personal questions like about his family .
I uses teamwork because we chose how to lay out our imovie and we all had a job to do .
