Year 2 Shapes

To start our project week this week, Year 2 have learnt to identify 2D shapes.

What is a 2D shape?
A 2D shape is a shape that is completely flat. Some examples of a 2D shape are a circle, rectangle, triangle or square.

We went around the school on a shape hunt. We identified different shapes in areas of the school.

Children drew different shapes to make a picture and labelled the shapes they had drawn.

Using geoboards, the children explored making different shapes. We learnt to know and understand the properties of 2D shapes and sides.

How many 2D shapes can you name that have more than 2 sides?
Which 2D shape has only 1 side?

How many 2D shapes can you find at home?
