Year 3 Art Home Learning 10.3.23

Miss Redhead

In art this half term we are learning about warm and cool colours. We learnt last week that artists choose specific colours to evoke emotional responses from the people viewing their work.

This week we are going to look at how artist use tone in their work.

We will be exploring 2 paintings:

The Scream by Edvard Munch 1893

Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh 1889

Bronze: Are the tones used light or dark and how does this make you feel?

Silver: Which painting do you like best and why?

Gold: Choose one painting and find out a bit more about it doing some independent research.

    The person that is screaming I think haves more darker colours and it makes me feel sad silver I like the first one because it has a lot more darker colours so it can make it a litter more interesting. GOLD the first painting is not screamin I think because take a closer look and it isn’t screaming.

    The Starry night is a oil on canvas by the Dutch Post Impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh. Painted in 1889 it depicts the view from the East facing window of his asylum at Saint – Remy – de – Province.

    scream makes me feel scared and the starry night makes me feel happy.

    I like the starry night better because it makes me feel happy and it does look like a starry night.

    I like the starry night more because the scream looks scary. The starry night has nice and warm colours that are mixed with black . I like the part where their is silver mixed with black, that makes it look magical and magnificent.

    I choose Starry night painting by Vincent van Gogh.
    The Starry Night is an oil-on-canvas painting . It is the most recognizable paintings of all time.
    Van Gogh was seeking respite from plaguing depression at the Saint-Paul asylum in southern France when he painted The Starry Night. It reflects his direct observations of his view of the countryside from his window as well as the memories and emotions this view evoked in him.

    The tone is slightly dark so it makes me very very very calm.

    I like the Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh 1889 because it is using different materials.
    Gold:
    The oil-on-canvas painting is dominated by night sky roiling with chromatic blue swirls, a glowing yellow crescent moon, and stars rendered as radiating orbs. One or cypress trees trees, often described as flame-like, tower over the foreground to the left, their dark branches curling and swaying to the movement of the sky that they partly obscure Amid all this animation, a structured village sits in the distance on the lower right of the canvas. Straight controlled cypress the small cottages and the slender steeple of a church, which rises as a beacon against rolling blue hills. The glowing yellow squares of the houses suggest the trees welcoming lights of peaceful homes, creating a calm corner amid the painting’s turbulence.

    I chose the scream this picture was made by Edvard munch in 1893 and there was a meaning to this picture too. This also makes sense by the man on a bridge screaming that’s how it got its name scream .

    I like the Starry Night picture better because I like the bright colours used to make the stars bright. I like the buildings in the background and the colours used. The Scream picture is scary because of the persons face and looks like the person is running away from the people in the background.

    Starry Night is a famous painting by Van Gogh. He painted it in 1889 while he was staying in a mental hospital in France. It was the view from his hospital window. The painting has been used a lot on different things you can buy in the shops.

    I like the second one because I don’t like spooky and the second one makes me feel calm because it has more dark colours.

    The scream painting has light tones in the sky and dark tones in the rest of the painting. This picture makes me feel surprised and a bit scared.
    The starry night painting has light tones where the stars and moon are and dark tones where the buildings are. This picture makes me feel magical.

    The picture makes me feel calm and A bit scared. The dark shades tell me it’s getting dark and the light shade makes me feel calm because it’s not completely dark. I also feel scared because in the water it looks like there a big black fire inside it.

However the Scream makes me feel more scared because it looks like the man is feeling dizzy and is going crazy. I think he might have seen something scary. Maybe it’s to hot and everything is melting because the sky had bright colours like a fire.🔥

        I feel the coolness of the light blue green and light yellow mixed in the calm beautiful sky 🌌 😌
