Sarah needs to shade 1/4 because she has 2 which has already been shaded so that would be our numerator and there are 4 in total so are fraction will be 2/4 but we need to get 3/4 so we forget about the denominator so are fraction will be 2 now we have to add something to make 3 because Sarah needs 3 so ? + 2 = 3 and the answer that we have now is 1 now add back the denominator and the fraction is 1/4 . 1/4 is = to 6 because there are 8 triangles we have to find out 3/4 before we find out the answer so the first thing we have to do is divide our denominator which is 4 8 divided by 4 = 2 and there are 4 lots of 2 that means that there are 4 groups with 2 in each of them now we have to times by the numerator and the numerator is 3 and since are answer so far is 2 we have to times it by 3 because it’s our numerator 3 x 2 = 6 so she needs to shade 6.
The answer is 8 because when your dividing the number you have to look at the number your using to divide and times the the so let’s say the answer is 8 and the dividing number 3 8 x 3= 24 and Sarah has 24. 1/8 is the smallest because when there are more numbers the big spaces will need to shrink to make the rest of parts therefore it’s smaller then 1/4 next is the next smallest because when there are more numbers the big spaces will need to shrink to make the rest of parts therefore it’s smaller 1/3 is close to being the biggest because it is the next smallest because when there are more numbers the big spaces will need to shrink to make the rest of parts therefore it’s a little bigger 1/2 is the biggest because there’s lots of space and there are 2 parts because the denominator is 2 therefore it is the biggest .

Peter ‘s fraction is 3/8 because it says there are 5 chocolate and 3 vanilla because the denominator represents the total we will count them 5 + 3 = 8 and because are numerator represents how much we are talking about and we are talking about the vanilla so it would be 3 and are fraction is 3/8. If he added 2 more scoops 1 vanilla and one chocolate it would be 4/10 because 3 + 1 =4 and also adds to the denominator which is now 9 because 8+1=9 and he also adds 1 to chocolate and that also adds to the denominator which = 10 altogether is 4/10.
