    ■ Bronze – Sarah needs to shade 4 more triangles to make 3 quarters of the shape.

8 Marbles are red because one third of 24 equals 8 as 8 x3 is 24.

Lowest fraction is 1/8, then its 1/4, 1/3 and the highest fraction is 1/2.

Sarah needs to shade 1/4 because she has 2 which has already been shaded so that would be our numerator and there are 4 in total so are fraction will be 2/4 but we need to get 3/4 so we forget about the denominator so are fraction will be 2 now we have to add something to make 3 because Sarah needs 3 so ? + 2 = 3 and the answer that we have now is 1 now add back the denominator and the fraction is 1/4 .
The answer is 8 because when your dividing the number you have to look at the number your using to divide and times the the so let’s say the answer is 8 and the dividing number 3 8 x 3= 24 and Sarah has 24. 1/8 is the smallest because when there are more numbers the big spaces will need to shrink to make the rest of parts therefore it’s smaller then 1/4 next is the next smallest because when there are more numbers the big spaces will need to shrink to make the rest of parts therefore it’s smaller 1/3 is close to being the biggest because it is the next smallest because when there are more numbers the big spaces will need to shrink to make the rest of parts therefore it’s a little bigger 1/2 is the biggest because there’s lots of space and there are 2 parts because the denominator is 2 therefore it is the biggest .

    Silver

Peter ‘s fraction is 3/8 because it says there are 5 chocolate and 3 vanilla because the denominator represents the total we will count them 5 + 3 = 8 and because are numerator represents how much we are talking about and we are talking about the vanilla so it would be 3 and are fraction is 3/8. If he added 2 more it would be 4/9.

    Gold
I used 5 and 7 to make 5/7 . This is because we were putting five in the sevens and the 7s were not so short. My fraction is 2 less then 1 whole because in order for it to be a whole the denominator and numerator need to be the same .

Roshaan, can you take another look at the following-

      BRONZE:

The shape has 8 triangles. You need to find 3/4, 2 triangles have already been shaded how many more needs to be shaded?

(Remember you divide by the denominator and multiply by the numerator…)
      .

      SILVER:

      Check (b) again.

If there are 8 cupcakes, 2 more were added, one of each flavour… What is the fraction of vanilla now? Your denominator
has changed, check the whole number (8+2)

If there are 8 cupcakes, 3 of which are vanilla… what is the fraction of vanilla? Your denominator is correct but what is the numerator ?/8.

      Give SILVER another try.
