Year 5 Autumn 2 Maths Challenge

How do you know?

Draw a diagram to show this.

What is a prime number? Create a checklist to help someone work out if their number is prime.

Gold

Use the same method to show all the factors for 24 and then 36.

How did you solve it? Define a prime number and a square number.

List all the square numbers up to 100.

    Alex runs 800 meters
    Whitney runs 10X further
    800X10=8000
    10X times further so you take away 800 so the final answer is:
    7200
    SILVER:
    the prime numbers are
    2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,29
    so the two missing numbers are 17 and 29
    GOLD:
    factors of 12
    1 x 12 = 12.
    2 x 6 = 12.
    3 x 4 = 12.
    4 x 3 = 12.
    PLATINUM:
    11-7=4

    If Alex ran 800 meters and Whitney runs 10 times more than Alex she has ran 8000 ,I know this by 800 × 10 which equals 8000 ,whenever you times you will always move the digits one place to the left.This means that Whitney has ran 7200 meters more than Alex and I know this by adding 800 and 7200 together which will equal 8000.

    The missing prime numbers Max missed are,17 and 29
    Gold:
    This is another way to make arrays for 12 — — — — This example shows 4 × 3 or 3 × 4 – 12
    Factors of 12 are:
    1,12,2,6,3,4 – 1 × 12 , 2 × 6 , 3 × 4
    Factors of 24 are:
    1,24,2,12,3,8,4,6 – 1 × 24 , 2 × 12 , 3 × 8 , 4 × 6
    Factors of 36 are:
    1,36,2,18,3,12,4,9,6,
    Platinum:
    11 – 7 = 4 which is a squared number .
    Squared up to 100 are:

    Whitney ran 8000 meters however Whitney also ran 7200 more then Alex I can prove this by using my time table knowledge and 800 x 10=8000 I know this because you just have to move the digits 1 forward if we were dividing out answer would of been 800.

    A prime number is a number that the only factors are 1 and itself an example is 7. 7’s factors are 1 and 7 which makes it a prime number and 18 is not a prime number which we call a Non-prime number you can do 2 x 9 which equals 18. But the answer for this is 17 and 29 it can’t be 28 because 13 x 2=28 and it can’t be 16 because 4 x 4=16 it can’t be 30 because 10 x 3=30 and it can’t be 18 because like I showed 2 x9=18

    Here is another example of an array which shows 12(4 lots of 3 also known as 4 x 3=12)

    Above shows 4 x 3 or you can say 3 x 4 which they both equal 12
    Factors of 12 are: 1,12,2,3,4 and 6
    1 x12=12
    2×6=12
    3×4=12
    Factors of 24 are: 1,24,2,3,4,6,8 and 12!
    1 x24=24
    2 x12=24
    3 x 8=24
    4 x 6=24
    Factors of 36 are: 1,36,2,3,4,6,9 12 and 18!
    1 x36=36
    2×18=36
    3×12=36
    4 x 9=36
    6 x 6=36
    There is no 5’s in this because all of the numbers in the 5 times table either end in a 5 or a 0 for example 5 x 10=50 or even 5 x 5=25
    Platinum
    This can either be 11 – 7=4 or it can be 13 – 4 =9(11 and 13 are prime number and 4 and 9 is a square number)

    The question is eleven – seven= four
    I found out that ten – one -hundred then subtracting seven from a prime number to make a one – digit number then I crossed off all of the answers with two -digit numbers the only prime numbers left were thirteen and eleven. I then did thirteen– seven= six, but six wasn’t a square number. Then, I did eleven – seven= four then I got my answer

    Four
    Nine
    Sixteen
    Twenty-five
    Thirty-six
    Fourty-nine
    Sixty-four
    Eighth-one
    One-hundred

      1×24 12×2 3×8 4×6 these are all equal to Twenty-four
      Factors of Thirty-six are:
      1×36,3×12 2×18 4×9 they are all equal to Thirty-six
      This is the other part

      Sorry, I accidentally posted my comment too early.
      Platinum :
      1) The question is 11 – 7 = 4.

Then, I crossed off all of the answers with 2 -digit numbers. The only prime numbers left were 13 and 11. I then did 13 – 7 = 6, but 6 wasn’t a square number. Then, I did 11 – 7 = 4. Therefore, I got my answer.
      3) The square numbers from 1 – 100 are 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, and 100.

    It could be 900 because if 100 + 800 = 900
    Then the answer is 900.
    Silver:
    17 and 29 because you can’t have any factors to times by to get that number (what I’m saying is ,the only factors are 1 and itself).

    The factors of 24 are:
    1,24,12,2,3,4,6 and 8.
    The factors of 36 are :

    1,2,3,4,36 and 6 because you can divide twelve by any of those numbers.
    factors of 24
    1,2,3,4,6,8, and 12 because you can divide these numbers by 24 like 2 divided by 12 = 24.
    factors of 36
    1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 36!!
    Example:
    12 divided by 3 = 36
    Platinum
    13-7=6
    11-7=4
    This is all I could do because if you use a prime number and minus it by seven and it becomes something for example 13-7=6 there is entirely no way of how to put a prime number then minus it into a squared number.
