This half term we are learning about the 1960’s so I have set you a challenge about this time period and you will need to use your place value knowledge to solve it.

The Beatles were a famous band from Liverpool in the 1960’s. What was the population of Liverpool during the 1960’s? What is the population of Liverpool now? Has it increased or decreased? By how much? Explain it.

Research the record sales for the following singers; Cilla Black, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger, using this knowledge identify who is the most successful singer. You will need to explain why using correct mathematical vocabulary. What is the difference in records sold between the most successful and least successful?

    Now the estimation of Liverpool is around 917,000. It has decreased by 64,000. My explanation is:
    917,000-981,000=64,000. This means that 64,000 people have might’ve stopped liking the Beatles or forgot about it as it is very old now.

    John Lennon’s record sales were 5,131,000.
    Paul McCartney’s record sales over than 100,000,000.

    Next was John Lennon’s record sales and his was next most out of them all.
    Mick Jaggers was 3rd with 3,140,721 record sales.
    Cilla black was the most unsuccessful with 435,000.

    I worked this out, by taking 917,000 from 1,384,000. I ended up with 467,000, and I know that it is the answer to the question.
