4 Blue’s Performance Week has been absolutely magical! We have had an amazing time this week showing off all our talents and exploring new skills.
Monday
First, we had to decide what performance is! We settled on defining it as any way we can show off our skills and talents, including singing, dancing, acting, reciting times tables, reading aloud, making art, playing sports and many many more!
Watch the video to see us showing off some of the things we can do!
We also thought about our school value of uniqueness and what makes us unique, and made inner and outer self portraits to show the things we enjoy that make us unique individuals.
Tuesday
Today we looked at performers who have had to overcome some kind of barrier or opposition, whether that be a disability, the loss of a family member before an important competition, or coming back to win a match when it looked like they might lose. We used these stories as inspiration to create pencil and watercolour art pieces.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, we looked at another different type of performance – sports! Along with the rest of Year 4, we went out to play some football, focusing on our teamwork and good sportsmanship. There were some amazingly talented players and it was great to get outside and share our skills.
We also discussed performance anxiety, also known as stage fright. We shared our experiences with stage fright and came up with some tips to help overcome it, then created posters to showcase our ideas.
Thursday
Thursday morning started with a very exciting event – the Key Stage 2 Talent Show! There were lots of amazing talents on display from our friends in year 3, 5, 6 and the other year 4 classes. We were lucky enough to close the show with MG reading his poem about inclusion in football, accompanied by Afsa, Osas, Inder, Nicolas and Rehyan acting out his beautiful message. Take a look!
After this wonderful start to our day, we decided to try our hand at some comedy! We watched some stand up comedians, talked about some of the things that we find funny, and then had a go at telling some jokes. Here’s our best ones!
Friday
We had another chance to perform on Friday morning, as some of our parents came to see what we have been up to with Mr Russel in Music lessons. Here’s the highlights for those that weren’t able to join us.
Today we were introduced to the art of mime – telling a story using only gestures! We came up with some stories and acted them out with our partners, thinking about our facial expressions and nice clear movements.
In 4 Blue, we absolutely love our times table songs! Here’s a video of us singing our favourite – the nine times tables to the tune of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shiver’.
All week we have been trying to impress Miss Woodman and Mrs Sanders in the hope of winning our class microphone.
And the winner is… Sara!
Bonus Video!
Of course, there’s been lots of music coming out of our classroom this week! Check out some of our brilliant singing and dancing – we love a jam session!
