1 Blue – Practising Spellings at Home

Dear Parents,

We need your help with supporting your child to learn their spellings. Spelling tests are on a Thursday, so practise over the weekend and throughout the week for 5-10 minutes. Here are some ways that they can practise:-

1. Look at the words and identify the common sound in the word list before adding sound buttons.

2. Make the words with magnetic letters.

3. Rainbow write the spellings – write each word 3 times in different colours.

4. Use the look, say (Fred talk), cover, write and check method.

5. Write sentences which include the spellings.

If your child gets a score of 8 or more, they will come home with a special sticker and their effort is celebrated on the spelling blog.

Spelling is one element of being a successful writer and putting these good practices into place now will support your child as they go through primary school.

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog and wanting your child to gain! Ms Khan and Mrs Patel
