Amazing Gruffalo week in RR

What a magical week we have had! Our learning has been about the story of the “Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson. We wrote some beautiful sentences about the Gruffalo using adjectives. We looked at the Gruffalo’s habitat and compared it to other animal’s habitats. We created our own woodland animal puppets and took them to forest school to talk about where they live. In Maths, we have been working on our counting skills and 1:1 correspondence. We also explored and compared mass and developed a deeper understanding of number 3. Here are a few pictures and videos of our week. Please don’t forget to comment on which part of the week you enjoyed the most.

C&L: The children listened to the story of the Gruffalo. They then talked about what they remembered from the story using the new vocabulary that they have learnt.

L: To describe the Gruffalo using adjectives

Reading: To blend sounds into words.

UW: To understand the need to respect and care for all living things and the natural environment. Children created their own finger puppet of woodland animals and took them to forest school to talk about their habitat.

Maths: To develop a deeper understanding of number 3

SEAL: To know I am a citizen of a community: We talked about how we help in the BH community and children were able to demonstrate an understanding of what makes a community. They also pledged and signed their names to promise to be good BH citizens.

Maths: To explore and compare mass: Children used balance scales to compare different objects to see which is heavier.

EAD: To create a Gruffalo picture: Children created their own Gruffalo pictures for our class display. We even had a go at writing some words and phrases to describe what we have created.

SMSC: To think and talk about which stories are special to us. We looked back at all the lovely stories we have enjoyed so far and talked about which ones are our favourite and why.

Mastering numbers

Stay and play: Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for stay and play. I hope you enjoyed learning with your children. See you again next time!
